Default Whats the best way to add horsepower to a 1979 Mustang Cobra?

I just picked up this awesome 79' Cobra 5.0 and its kinda ragged.
just a lil dirt here and there but potential boulevard no-doubt!

Anyways I'm debating on whether dropping the bills and getting a new block. overhauling it, getting it bored, or swapping heads. . .
I have no clue as far as I know the motor is in fine condition, high rise 302 with an edelbrock 4bBl, underdrive pulleys, shorty's and true duel exhaust. trans was just rebuilt the guy says. . . you know how that goes. havent ripped anything out yet to see numbers but it has the stock 3 speed auto trans. 7.5" rear possibly 3.10:1's? im a young cat and dont know were to look for old specs i was hoping a wiser ford man could help me out.

thanks for reading

Welcome to the site and great find. First you need to decide what you are going to be using the car for. Street/strip, we can help from there.

Hey Nigel thanks for the reply. I was starting to think I smelt bad.

Ok well my dream for the car would be to fully restore the interior (i will have pics up this wekkend sometime of the interior, there are some cracks in the vinyl) And Get it cleaned and some fresh paint. I just want to be able to drive it everyday, if i so choose. I would like a Fast strip car but I don't want it to be my "racecar". Just a Street Car with a Bad-ass ATTITUDE, u know like a high 11 - mid 13 second range would be nice. the biggest thing is that my daily driver is a 1991 Dodge Spirit. lol yea ive been living in the fast lane leme tell ya. and just wanna be able to **** and get when necessary.

allright man well thanks for the reply .

what i see happening is: repainted, BLack american racing Wheels, either cams or heads. i know squat to very little about Ford, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you could do is get the basic shortblock done with forged pistons.
For the intake, I'd suggest an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap.
You have options on the heads, question is do you want iron or aluminum?
