this maybe a stupid question. im 19 an just on the seem of learning about cars. i have a 87 gt with a 302 unfortunelty my lock is cracked an i just had my heads reworked. so i was cruious if a 302 from lets say a grand marquis or a crown vic or a older ford truck would work for my 302. sorry if this is stupid just trying to get my new baby running.
as long as its a ford 302 and you swap over manifolds, ignition cam, rocker, lifters(if from a non ho car) and anything else that is specific to your car.

so really it would be alot better to just wait till i can get a mustang 302 an get that. cause internals an so on wont be the same. an in some cases meaning in less horsepower then then stock mustang 302. ill just wait till i can find one thanks guys for all your help.
could you just imagine the head scratching going on when i pop the hood and the distributor's in the back and that big cross ram is hanging over the valve covers? i used to catch hell from the mustang guys when i pulled into a meet and the z had the 302 tags on the hood.
for the OP the biggest difference is going to be the pistons, you could end up w/ a low compression ratio and cast pistons just grabbing one out of a mercury or truck. keep poking around and you'll start to see the subtle differences that make each engine what it is.

Do you mean 305? z28 is chevy they dont run 302 stock it's 305,350... as far as I know.
nope. 302. 4" bore 3" stroke, its a 69 so its a large journal motor but i've had a 67 short block w/ the steel 283 small journal in it. nothing special, lunati billet crank, arias 12:1 pistons, solid flat tappet cam, stockish heads and a cross ram. ran a 14.4 at 115 on street tires and a bullshit hayes clutch the only time to the track.
