I have a 1987 mustang GT and have done a good amount of work to it! I was wondering what I should do next to make my car faster without paying a bunch of money! My mods as of now are: 306 engine with forged pistons, E-303 camshaft, gt-40p heads ported/polished w/ 3 angle valve job, 1.6 roller rockers, double roller timing chain, edelbrock rpm-air gap intake, 650 holley double pumper carburetor, racing AODE transmission, 3:73 gears, 6al ignition, msd-distributor.
Please give me your thoughts, would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks a lot,
What exhaust set-up do you have? You could swap in long-tube headers, 2.5" H-pipe, and performance catbacks.
Some weight reduction wouldn't hurt either even though your car is already comparatively light.
sounds like a good combo.....what tires are you running ....didnt know if you liked the drag radial....oh by the way do you have a stall converter.if not ...thats the next mod for sure.

full length subframe connectors, shocks&struts, and control arms
power is useless if you cant get it to the ground....
Dang! You beat me to it!
But yeah, if you have stock suspension, then it's time to upgrade for sure.
SFC's, adjustable shocks & struts, and control arms.

Yeah I forgot to mention that I have a 3500 stall converter, and to answer the question above you I have Mac shorty- equal length headers, Mac 2.5 h-pipe, and 3" flowmaster exhaust!! but suspension should be the next mod? I was thinking about a bigger camshaft would that be a good idea and if so what size? (I like the rough idle...hint hint... lol!)

Since all you have are the GT40P heads, and already have the E-cam installed, I wouldn't worry about a different cam. If it's working for you just keep it that way until you decide to change heads.
You COULD get a TFS Stage 1 or 2 cam. I don't think you will notice any power difference with the stage 1 cam but maybe the stage 2.
I would mainly worry about suspension now. Get that suspension upgraded and take it down the track and notice the difference traction will make!

Suspension before fiddling with the cam. You'd get more benefit from applying the power to the ground rather than swapping a cam that you may not get much from. Considering you have P heads, you can do only so much with a cam anyway.
I would suggest lightening the car, that would make it feel faster. Less weight to move, the better it is. Combine that with a proper suspension, it'd be ripping. You could lose as much as 150 pounds easy, maybe more depending on how far you want to go with it.

Yes, losing some weight in an already light FOX body will definitely make a difference. Man, why didn't I mention that...
Go to the track before doing any suspension work and notice how hard it is to get proper traction... Then do the suspension upgrades and let her rip and take notice of the difference!

after which better heads and custom grind cam.....
longtube headers
what is a racing aode......
aode in an 87......
I guess racing AODE is the wrong term....... Its the AODE tranny that came with the car but i sent it to a tranny shop and they customized it with gears and everything else so it would be perfect for what I wanted...... its shifts very hard through each gear, pretty much like a manual but without the clutch action!! I love it!!!!!
