Default Low Aceleration on my 89 GT

wasup mustang owners!!! i have a question...my 89 mustang gt doesnt accelerate as fast i thought a mustang shud...so then i test drove my friends 90 mustang gt and his accelerated Fasssssttt!!!! both are auto.... i almost have 2 step on it 2 accelerate at times....and it only happends when you get 2 second or third gears...whats wrong with my car???? thanx!

my 95 gt stang with auto tranny has the same problem. when i bought her she would accelerate pretty fast but now i could do 0-60 in like a minute.

wow that sucks!! my cars is good when it accelerates from zero but i dont know why but its a copletely different car once its running...if i start the car slow and decide to accelerate after, it takes forever to accelerate!!

I would check the easy stuff, air filter(make sure its clean) it could be
clogged, by dirt or obstructions. transmission fluid, oil, are the tires stock or not, widder tires will have an impact on power transfer specially if any of the above are part of the problem. Are you using
decent gas, something that culd be affecting it, but its not that easy is the timing, or the fuel filter/ fuel pump.

is your tranny down shifting when your from a roll? if not you may have a problem with the kickdown cable

do you have a cold air intake with tube from manifold to intake (not intake but brather tube)? might want to check and see if you have oil in the intake. I had a 95 gt that got oil in it and it ruined my maf and car ran like crap 24/7 replaced the maf and regained performance. just an idea

In other words, start with making sure it's in good running condition and has a current tune up.

But we can't tell without knowing more about the car. Is it stock? Modified? Was his modified and yours stock?

thanx 4 all da replys... my car is almost stock n so is my friends mustang..except for bbk shorty headers, it has a cold air intake that goes into da fender...other than that its stock...i always put premium gas on my car...i jus took it 2 ford 2 get an oil change n they told me its leaking oil into da intake manifold...i am going 2 give it a tune up once i get it back...it is getting da wiring redone because tha last owner messed da car up!! thanx again!!

thats not good for the paint.

5.30 gears would make it accelerate faster.

lol 5.30's it would accelerate faster but with the auto you would top out at like 70. bu it would solve the accel. problem
