i have a 93 5.0... i'm looking to get a little bit more horse power outta it. i have a good clean set of gt 40p heads. i'm looking to get the upper and lower intake from an explorer as well. the car is basically stock aside from bbk shorty headers and a upr cold air intake, an offroad h pipe and mac pro dumps...will this just be a bolt on deal if i decide to do this...i'm hearing i'll have to change headers? and don't worry i already know that if i want real horse power than i should go with aluminum heads...already have them in the 65 coupe..just looking for some more for the fox..with little to no money to spend..don't really want to get into porting or any machine work at the moment...

To really feel the difference with the budget GT40P's, you need to upgrade the valve springs (a set is $110) and get a cam ($100+). A cam will really make the difference. Yes you do have to get new headers but they arent that expensive. Ford racing makes a set for the GT40P's and the reason you have to get new headers is because the spark plugs are angled and will hit the stock header. The gaskets are the same and it will bolt right up to your existing off road h-pipe with no modification. You will need a set of spark plugs because the threads are different then the stock E7's. but thats only like $10. Just get them for a 2000 5.0 explorer and youl be set. There are alot of different cams you can run with it, I have the GT40P setup and have a Trick Flow stage 1 cam. Otherwise just get a new set of head bolts and assemble. Nothing to it really. Just simple parts but to really feel the difference you have to upgrade the valve springs like I said (No biggie) and you will want to put a cam in it.

Just be realistic with the expectations, the P heads are better than the E7s but they're still stock Explorer heads.
You'd be advised to get the P specific headers or you'll be getting burned plug boots and hassles installing/removing your plugs.

i actually do have a mild cam in it...not exactly sure what it is...sounds like maybe an e or b cam...or something along those lines...the bf knows but i can't seem to remember for the life of me...but anyway, that being said, what type of springs should i put in? i don't want to cheap out but i'm not looking to spend a lot either..also i'm hearing alot about changing headers and messing with spark plugs and things of the such...i hear alot of ppl just bolt them on and go not needed to change any of that...definatly hearing alot on changing the springs but others are saying headers and plugs are fine..and again i have bbk shorty headers...?
bbk unequal shorty's with 90* plug wires DO WORK with gt40p heads
if you need me to prove it,i can search for the guy's thread, but believe me,they do fit..you must use plug wires with 90* boots on the ends though..no big deal
you will need different sprakplugs though, not for clearance issues, but just because the p heads take a different plug..autolite 104..just your standard everyday sparkplug
get the trickflow valve spring upgrade kit from summitracing, its about $130,drop in-no machining required, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-2500100/#
or the crane beehives part # 44308-1(if you can find them anywhere since they went out of business)..same price as the trickflow kit..thats what i have on my P heads..

Heres what my recipt says for part numbers on the springs
TFS51400413 - Valve Springs = $65.95
TFS51400423 - Retainers = $46.95
TFS51400434 - Cups = $25.95
You do need to upgrade the valve springs if you have a cam. I would just sell the headers you have and get the correct ones. Put the on ebay or craigs list or something? Hope this awnserd something Let us know how it works out.
