Default mass air question

Well i think my mass air isnt working anymore. I have a miss at idle and a surge at about 1500-2000 rpm. All tune up parts have been changed so i can rule that out. I can unplug my mass air and the engine dosent run any different so im looking to replace it. The few questions i have about the mass air is

Is the electrical unit of the mass air what calibrates it or is it the bore size of the mass air?
If not can i grab one off of another car to see if it is my problem before i look into replacing mine with a bigger pro m?
What would be better for a supercharged motor regular mass air or blow through mass air?

Thanks for any help you can give on this. Its going on my 93 cobra thats supercharged and i would rather not make a mistake.

That's strange, usually if your maf is dead or you unhook it while running, your car will die right then.

When the mass air fails, it'll cause a lousy running engine IF it keeps running. If it doesn't stall the engine when you unplug it, then yup there's a problem with it. That just means the other sensors are trying to adjust and make up for the lack of MAF input.

It's the sensor itself that you need to worry about, not the bore size.
You can try another element, just be careful in swapping them because it takes very little to break it.
The best would be the blow through, but the regular would be fine.
