good, it looks like I wont have to take the upper intake off. something you said is worrying me though.. Is there more than one coolant temp sensor? if so, which sensor does the computer use to judge the temp of the engine, and is it the same sensor that controls the temp gauge in my instrument cluster?
The reason i ask is that the temp gauge in my car never rises above 130, and the car seems to be fouling plugs and running rich. This makes me think that the coolant temp sensor is malfunctioning, which causes the computer to think that the car is never reaching operating temperature so it is constantly running the car rich, which is fouling my plugs and causing this poor performance. what do you guys think?

what do you mean when you ask what sensor I am using? Using for what? I didnt know there were 2, so I assumed the one that I bought was the one for the dash gauge

ok, the new temp sensor I have is larger that the one for the gauge, so it must be the other. I looked behind the water pump, but didnt see a sensor..it is dark now though, so maybe I missed it..I did see a sensor that looks like the one I have in the large line that runs into the thermostat housing.

Adam what 89coupe was asking was were did you get that the car was only running at 130 degrees? Are you using a autometer or another mechanical gauge or is it the stock one in your dash?

It's the gauge in the dash that reads low.

In the picture, the sensor that is circled is the sensor for the dash gauge, but am I correct in the location of the other? Is it in that black line running into the thermostat housing?

Yes, thats where the ECT sensor for the ECM is. Sticking straight up.
If its not throwing a Failure code, then dont replace it.
