What are the main differences between the 80's 5.0 high outputs and the 302 boss blocks in terms of measurements as well as strengths and any other diffierences. Could you drop a 302 Boss into a fox body using the stock fuel injection ecm and equipment. Are there parts that won't fit a Boss that will fit an HO or visa versa. Sorry about all the questions but 'm new to Fords and am trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks
The '69-'70 BOSS engines were 302 4 bolt "Windsor" main blocks with a flat tappet solid lifter cam. The main difference between the 5.0L and the BOSS was the use of open chambered 4BBL "Cleveland" heads. These heads flowed awesome at high rpms (for the times), but lacked at the bottom end. The engine was rated at 290 hp but was more. How much more is open to debate.

The boss seems to be a lot more solid form what I've read but I was wondering what parts are compatable with the block from my HO. And could I use the stock fuel injection system with it?
save your money the reinvented boss block has a few issues....
if you are going with an aftermarket block i recommend going with a Dart or World block......
I thought I saw somewhere that those issues had been addressed...

I checked out the dart blocks and they seem nice. I'd like to keep with the 302 instead of the 351 but I'm looking for something that won't split in half at 400hp but will also work with the fuel injection system

Not to my knowledge.......
if you have something post up a link.......

If your goal is only 400 hp a stock 3002 block will be just fine

At this point we have to ask "what is are you hoping to do/gain" ? and "how much is your budget"? if you want a bullet proof short block for racing, a new 4 bolt aftermarket block is the way to go, if you want a great street motor just rebuild the stock engine with a stroker 331/347 kit and don't skimp on the parts...I had a 347 stroker that need rebuilding but I decided that once in a lifetime one should have a 427, so I tossed the 302 and bought a new 4 bolt main 351 Dart block and had all the parts that were resuable rebuilt and used, the rest were tossed and new ones will be added (stroker kit, etc...550 rwhp here I come! And by the way it will smoke that fricking BMW M5! Reg can you feel me?...man I had a good laugh on that thread!
