Default where to get manual valve body for AOD

Hi, does anyone know if you can buy a manual valve body for an AOD transmission. I installed a transgo shift kit in my car and am not really happy with it. and would I need to change my shifter as well? thanks.

Yup, you can get a manual valvebody for the AOD. I know, I have one.

Lentech, Performance Automatic, Dynamic Racing Transmissions, Art Carr, they all make valvebodies for it.

No you don't have to change the shifter, you just have to be careful not to skip 2nd and go right to Drive. The only thing you'll have to do it figure out how to get access into the pan so you can wire up the solenoid for overdrive. OD will be electrically controlled with a switch so you'll have to get a heavy duty switch, I'd recommend at least 12 gauge wiring to handle the amperage, and then however you gain access.

What I did was drill the pan and install the fitting the valvebody came with, I used O rings on both sides to eliminate leaks, and then red LokTite so the nuts wouldn't loosen up. From there it was just routing the wire away from the exhaust, and using a 30 amp inline fuse right before the switch. Find a place in the interior for your switch and it'd be best to get a lighted switch so you can see when OD is on, and then get used to driving the car all over again. This also does away completely with the pesky throttle valve cable so it can be totally eliminated.

This sounds like a lot but it can be done in a single day. It's a direct swap other than the wiring of the switch. Good time to change the trans fluid too.

Can someone explain the 4R70W parts to me. I have to rebuild the AOD in my pony and wasnt sure if they are just better clutches that will last longer or what it is. Is it a neck breaker kit.? I know nothing about this "product". Thanks

There are better clutches, bands, and kolene steels for the AOD.
If you order internals, look for Red Alto clutches, and larger drums so the gears will hold more clutches and steels. That means more clamping force. The material is better than the lousy stock parts. Upgrade your overdrive servo to an "A" because the Mustang has a "B" servo. The A gives better clamping force. If you want lower gears, you can get a wide ratio set for it, then you'll have a 2.84 first gear rather than the stock 2.40. Second is improved as well, and overall strength is increased.

Can you just upgrade the lousy overdrive without buying the whole kit. Will this kit increase shifting force like a shift kit or is it more of just upgrading internals to increase life expectancy. I have a few bolt ons but nothing serious to where I think I need something but if it doesnt really change drivability but gives you better materials then I am intrested, I just dont want to break my neck on shifts again. I mean I would but I dont drive it hard enough to need that you know. I just want a little.

You can pick and choose what parts you want, so it doesn't have to be full boogie if you don't want. Most of the manufacturers have stages you can choose from: stock, performance, race.
