Default MAF sensor help needed!

Ok so first off I thank you all very much for saving me 2 grand and getting a new tranny when I only needed to clean my MAF sensor!! Well anyway I stopes by my local auto parts store (oreiley's) and pickedd
myself up a can of maf cleaner. So I got home and popped the hood and took out took appart my cai kit and sprayed the stuff on the sensor. But the problem is I can't get the actual sensor out of the housing unit (silver thing) it says I need a torx key or whatever? So I took a normal torx bit t20 and it didn't work because there is like a little security thing on it that doesn't allow me to get the bit in the hole. So how do I get the actual mad sensor out? Is there any way to get around having to get the actual security bit? If not where can I get it and how much does it cost?

I bought just the torx security bits from sears. It's been a while but i think I paid 20-40 bucks for them. I think it was worth it because I've used them a ton

There's a permanent fix for that. Use the two phillips headed screws that came in the stock maf sensor, then if / when you ever decide to clean it again you won't run up against that problem. I switched mine out last weekend from the stock maf to the 70mm Cobra unit. Took me about 1/2 hr. You can buy that torque bit but you better not misplace it and want to clean your maf again down the road. You might be out another 20-40 bucks I put the 70mm on the bench. On the cobra unit I noticed there was one screw that was away and not touching the sensor housing. That screw came out easily with vice-grips. The other screw was up tight against the housing and the vice grips would'nt grab it at all so here is what I done.

I took a hacksaw and put a groove in the head of the screw. I then took a flat headed screwdriver and a hammer and tapped the screw lightly to turn it. When the notch came up against the housing and I could'nt turn the screw anymore, I put another notch in the head of the screw back some distance and done the same thing again turning the screw bit by bit. It took about 4 notches in the head of the screw, and it was pretty chewed up in the end, plus it's a slow process, but it works. When you take the sensor off there is a tiny "O" ring sitting in a groove below. Don't loose it. Next time you decide to clean your maf it will be a breeze because you'll have two phillips screws that are easy to turn.....and now that money you just saved you can stock your fridge up with some beer.

That's how you get those buggers out. ^^^ Better than paying for bits that you'll use once or twice.

Ford used the TORX security bolts so people wouldn't mess with the sensors! You can get a set of them at advance auto for $11!

I paid $7.00 at O'rielys, it had about 20 different security bits in it, I haven't a clue where they are all used but I guess I have it if I need it, supposed to be for Fords.

Nice find Floss I'll check Ace out, cool they sell individual bits, that'll be better for me than knocking on my neighbors door every few months to borrow his!

Become an electrician and you'll find a use for the security bits every day of week. PS. C&L Mass air meters come with the bit.
