Default 1992 Mustang trunk lid will not stay up

I am new to these cars and I don't know what's missing to make the trunk lid stay up. A picture or a link to get the part I need would be great. Is it a tensioning rod or a hinge spring that is needed?

Thanks

Troy

Is there just nothing there to hold it up? Or are the hydraulic struts just bad?

You should have something like this on each side.

more than likely its a tensioning rod. there should be two in the trunk. i had the same problem, and it turned out one of my rods slipped out of the groove in the trunk hinge. a google image search should get you a good pic of the trunk interior. just be careful if you need to re-seat a rod, it can get dangerious if they try and break free on you.

If it's a hatchback, then the lift supports are probably worn out. Simple replacement.

good catch reggie, i forget that in other parts of the country the automotive vernacular can be a bit different.
my original answer is contigent on you having a 'trunk' trunk rather than a hatch trunk.

check the tension rod as mentioned above. open the trunk and stand on beside of the car and stick your head under the package tray area and you'll see the rod, it should mount to the sheet metal and go through a hole on the hinge, it rotates and puts tension against it to hold it open.
