Just kidding about the "power" heads thing...
Anyways, I finally scrounged up enough money to buy a head gasket kit for my '94. I decided to go with the gasket kit from AutoZone for $80something, instead of the Trick Flow gasket kit for $115.
So tomorrow, I'm going to take the engine and rear end out of that '97 Mountaineer that's been "uglying" up our shop. Then I'm taking the heads and intake off and leaving the engine to be rebuilt this coming spring.
Since my stock heads have 190K miles on them, I'm going to put the "P" heads on my Mustang since they only have 120K miles on them. I know they'll work, because the Mountaineer still runs. Yes I'm leaving those stock springs on there until my rebuild.
I'm really excited to feel a little extra power. And I'll also, have an Explorer intake for sell here soon too!
I'll try to get some pictures of the "project" so stay tuned.

Are you going to send the "GT40Power" heads out to get checked for warpage. I know you said it runs but maybe as a safety measure? That way you dont have to spend another $80 on gaskets because you have a leak you know.
Just lookin out.

Yeah I know and its totally understandable. Just to give you some numbers FEEN.. I spent $52 a head to get them inspected and if they needed to be rebuilt and milled, it was a total of $110 a head with the $52 being applied to the $110 fee. Just an idea man. Good luck with it though

Yanking it where it sits? Or tooling it around to the front?
I'm going to drive the 'neer into the shop. Like I said, it still runs. So I'll pull it in, yank the engine & trans, and pull the gears out. Then we're pulling it onto a trailer taking it to the local Pull-a-part.

I appreciate the advice man. And trust me I would take them and get them checked, but my daughter's B-day AND X-mas are coming up so all my money is tied up in that. (my daughter always comes before my car). I had to sell my paintball gun just to get this money. So therefore, I only have one of two choices... put my stock 190K mile heads back on, or put the 120K "P" heads on.
I'm praying and keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be ok, but I really don't have any other choice at the moment. Plus everything will be taken care of when I do the rebuild this coming spring.
So if the "P" heads can just hold on for that long, I'll be more than happy.
I know what I SHOULD do, but I can only do what I CAN do at the moment.

Most definitely! This will technically be my first engine yank, so I'm kinda excited!

Well guys, I finally got around to getting that engine out of the '97 'Neer.
It's going to take a little longer than I thought, but I'm getting it done. So far, I've taken care of the top of the engine, now I need to get the bottom half.
I would have gotten farther but the fan clutch on the water pump pulley was a complete PIA! Took us about an hour and a half...
Well, I'm not very good about getting pictures to load. So I'll try to get them in my gallery.

Kinda excited for you buddy boy. I got ants in my pants with my little swap going on now also.
What kinda swap do you have going?
BTW- I updated my gallery. For some reason I have no problems loading pics on there but keep having problems uploading them on the forums...

I got some TFS heads with some bowl work and milled, a track heat intake and a Jay Allen cam amongst other things like rockers blah blah blah oh and some long tubers. Oh and just ordered a flamming river steering shaft. It never ends.

Hey, I'll take that as motivation! I'm going to keep my expectations low for now, just cause. I know I'll see a definite power improvement, just don't know how much to expect right now.

The modding addiction is as bad as crack. Except modding is more expensive.
