Default Newbie advice for distributer and coil selection

So I tryed starting up my project car. I'm getting power to the center of the distributer but nothing is making it to the plugs. I bought a new cap and rotor and after that still nothing to the plugs. I used a ohm meter and plugs seem to still be in good condtion. So now I'm left with Replacing the MSD baster coil and hole distributer.
What do you guys think I should get? Should I get a factery distributer and coil replacement from pepboys? Or should I get a aftermarket setup and if so what brand and model?

if you're replacing ur distributor, go with the most trasted MSD product... but first make sure that's problem first, before you replace it...what year is mustang? do you have tht module on the side of the distributor? if you do, check that first, it is still good.. bet someone here knows whts wrong with your car.. but like i said, check everything first before you buy a replacement, cos it might not be your problem..(I learned from my mistake )

How to I check that module? its a 91 but when I went to get the rotor and cap the parts store matched up my rotor and it came out under a older car. The rotor in the distributer now is big and round compared to a actual 91 rotor that came up.. if that matters..

That rotor does matter. Sounds like the one in there now isn't the right one, meaning either the internals of the distributor or the distributor itself. Where did it come from?

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

I bought a cap and rotor for a 91 5.0 and I could only use the cap. The rotor was the wrong shape to fit the distributor. I took the old rotor to my local parts store and it ended up matching to a older mustang like a 87 88 (yr?). Its the round one. So on it now is the 91 cap and 87 88(?) rotor. the cap fit right on but now I'm thinking about getting a new one to eleminate this custer *&*# of a setup. Good idea?
