Default Did I Break Something? Chattering After Motor Mount Replacement

Hey Guys,

It's driving me nuts. Last week i replace the motor and Tranny mounts with FORD OE mounts in my 1989 GT. Two days later I started to hear what sounds like "Chatter" on the driver side and it sounds like its right behind the dash. Every now and then I hear it on the passenger side as well.

I hear it most at idle and as I'm slowly engaging 1st gear.....nothing at higher speeds.

I thought I didn't TQ the bolts in enough. So I backed out each bolt that goes into the block and put some blue loctite. I screwed them back in (Pneumatic Impact Gun). I let it sit over night and the next morning I still heard the chatter but not as loud. (I dont remember if there were supposed to be lock washers with the bolt so if there are, I didnt put them back in.)

Could this be where the chatter is coming from or did I break something when I lifted the engine??

Please Help! thanks!!!!

Rob

could be something hitting off the exhaust or somewhere..if your old motor mounts were beat, the new one probably raised the engine back up a bit..i would start by checking for and contact points,or any hoses, etc hitting the firewall(or anywhere else),steering shaft?

They were beat.....the fan was scrapping the shroud quite a bit. I will check there.

thanks!

I'd do the same, checking for interference with the fan and exhaust.
