Default Pro's and Con's to EGR

I will soon be rebuilding my good old 302 and am still in the research stage. So far I my goal is a stout GT40 combo (heads and intake). I know you can get exploder intakes and heads with or without internal egr passages.

Is there any real advantage to getting rid of the egr stuff? smog pump egr plate intake and heads w/o egr?
I mean, ford wouldnt put it on there if it didnt have a purpose?

Just wondering b/c I wouldnt mind simplifying my motor if I can....getting rid of un needed weight

Ford didn't want to put it on their motor. The government made them. Its a way to dilute the emissions. I tore mine off a long time ago. Cleaned the engine bay up from a lot of useless rusty clutter.

I've heard it can help reduce detonation somehow. Not an issue if you get it dyno tuned with a chip.

thats interesting, I plan on getting my car dyno tuned with a chip when the build is complete... do you think with a good tune my 302 would run better/cleaner?
Im sure it doesnt like those recirculated exhaust gasses lol

I'm taking my EGR off, from what I've read there isn't alot of gain/loss from it, as it is closed at WOT anyways. I think if you block it off at the head (to keep the hot exhaust out of the intake all together) remove the spacer (you can get EGR delete plates) and either plug or loop the coolant lines, the gain would come from a slightly cooler intake charge. Will it change much? I doubt it. My question is: Does the extra length of the EGR space add any performance, I mean you buy TB spacers for any application, so should it stay, even if the EGR is gone???????

From my research its better to have the EGR. I not a good idea to remove the cooling lines from the TB, however mine are. I hear much controversy over this. Some say why heat your cold air others say its just as hot after warm up w/ out it so better to have?

So do yall think I should just plug the back of the heads and take off that wonderful smog pump instead of a full egr delete? im just itching to get rid of that pump
