I just bought a 82 capri and I'm tring to decode the data plate but can't find what any of the codes mean for this year I'm just wandering what this car came with stock.

I think I found every thing except the paint codes wich are 1p and 1c The decoder I found did not have these codes but it was for a mustang gt. I got everything else I think but was wandering how you can tell if it is a RS or just a plane old capri. It has a 5.0 4spd 3.08 trac-lock black leather interior. It has a hood scoop [the longer of the factory ones I have seen in the pics I found on the net.

Can't tell you if it's an RS or a GS or Ghia or an L or a base model unless you provide ALL of the codes, and the VIN, and pics of the car.

The decoder you found at mustanggt.org only works for '82-'93 Mustang VINs and VC Labels. It doesn't have codes that are unique to the Capri, such as:

• the body code (6th and 7th characters in the VIN and three-character code on the VCL), which may tell you if it's a RS/GS/Ghia/L/[base] model depending on the model year
• the consecutive unit number (last six of the VIN)
• any paint codes that weren't available on GTs that model year
• the DSO
