Default Edelbrock Performer 2.02/Intake On Stock Bottom?

Hi,

There is a low priced used set of performer heads (#60399) ported and polished for sale in my area and I have heard the 2.02's don't work on with the stock bore and reliefs? Is that true, or do they just run better with the extra mods? I do plan on stroking it in a year, so I figured that they would be ideal but only if I can make use of them until then?

I am running stock except a ported explorer intake, 70mm TB, CAI, MAC equal length headers, h-pipe cat delete, MSD ignition (distributor/6AL/coil), electric fan and 3.73's

Any input is apreciated!

What you heard is true, the large 2.02 valve gets shrouded by the cylinder wall when used with a stock 4.000 inch bore. If the engine is bored .030 over, then it'd be better. You can physically use a 2.02 with the stock bore, it just causes the air/fuel mix to run down the wall and splash across the top of the piston, causing an uneven flame front that results in less than optimum power.
The stock pistons also do not accept a 2.02 valve, it'd be marginal at best and you need a minimum of .100 inch for proper clearance. It'd be too close for comfort, and you don't want to find the limit of clearances.

You could get them and hold onto them until you stroke it.

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear. I will likely buy them and store em for next year. For now I'll just throw some 1.7 roller rockers on while my intake is off and have fun with that, heads will have to wait!

Cheers

unless they are dirt cheap i wouldn't buy them to use on a stroker. i'd venture to say they would be maxed out on a mild stock block combo....
as for PTV clearance and flycutting, it takes about 3 hrs to notch for the valves. it can be done faster, but probably won't be right using DIY tools.
