My clutch cable broke 4 times in the past 2 months this past time I had my local mustang speed shop change it thinking maybe mine was adjusted wrong. What could possibly be causing this? Do you think a new quadrant an firewall adjuster will solve it?
once it has snapped right at the bell housing, and the past three times the cable has stayed in tact, but the thicker cable around the outside keeps peeling apart, this time it was right at the firewall, the past 2 times it was under the car where it wasn't rubbing. I ordered the steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster and cable hopefully its it
From what I have been reading here, stick with a stock (Ford) factory cable not a stock replacement such as that offered by the zone. I guess you need to see the little Ford logo stamped on it to be sure.
Summit caries them. http://www.summitracing.com/search/P...ord=ford+cable
I guess a lot of folks have problems with the cheap replacements.

i used the stock cable, the speed shop used a ford racing cable, still snapped it, i took the old quadrant out, its all jacked up, has stress cracks in it and the adjuster is all worn out, i have a feeling when i was shifting the pedal traveling back up caused it to keep tightening until it eventually snapped, now that i think about it, my clutch was grabbing higher and higher in the past 2 weeks

Did you put a new front bearing retainer on your trans when you put in the clutch?? I know my stock aluminum one got all galled from years of depressing the clutch, and a new steel one with a light coat of grease on it made clutch actuation smooth as butter. Your HD pressure plate is not helping the cause either. I also second only using Ford cables. Maximum Motorsports :: The Leader In Mustang Performance Suspension has a good writeup on this too, as well as a quadrant and adjuster that work with the stock cable.

installed the steeda clutch adjuster kit(firewall adj, adj. cable, quadrant) so far the pedal feels so much better and i have it adjusted to catch about 2" from the floor. hopefully this is the end of me snapping cables.
