Default 1985 Mustang GT, Budget Build Questions: Good combos?

Just bought an 85 GT. Decent little car, and all stock. Doing the typical tune up things, wires, plugs, oil change, etc.

Looking to build a street/strip on a budget.

Stock 85 GT 5 speed

Want to change rearend to the 8.8" instead of 7.5" with a 4.30 gears. What I want to know is, with building a street car, hopefully a low 13 second to high 12 second, what type of mods would go good together?

GT40 heads and a Victor Jr intake? Underdrive pulleys? What type of camshaft?

I know things that go well together make more power. But I still need to stay money conscious. Thanks for the help!

a lot of people like the e303 cam matched with the gt40 heads. I'm not a huge fan of the alphabet cams and would suggest a similar grind from comp cams.

If you are looking for a budget car/build try sourcing out a Explorer GT40 combo as in heads and intake. Replacing the rear with an 8.8 is a good upgrade but 4.30 gears are a bit steep if you plan on driving it on the street.

Well, the engine is carburated, so I can not do the GT40 intake off the explorer. That is why i am wondering what intake would work well with those heads.

4.30 gears would be used because I would not do any interstate driving, basically just around town. I want to get the best out of my ET.

The Victor intake matched to the stock GT40 heads would be like a 10 year old (the GT40 heads) trying to swing a 30 pound sledgehammer (the Vic intake). The GT40s and Victor intake is not a good match.

Since it's carbureted, and you want street/strip, go with the RPM Air Gap. It'll be good on the street and give plenty of power.

The cam in the 1985 is a roller, so you could go with one like this. The GT40 heads aren't heavy hitters, so you don't need a monster cam.
