Question TFI differences?

After doing some part searches, I have noticed that the TFI for an 86 5.0 is not transmission specific like TFI's on 87+ 5.0's. Any idea why?

The TFI on my 86 distributor has E3EF-12A297-A2A. I have found information stating that this part is for automatic transmissions and E3EF-12A297-A1A is for cars with manual transmissions. My 86 GT is a 5sp, speed density car and from what I have read, since it is an 86 it could use either TFI's.

I suppose the question to be asked is, if 87+ cars have a transmission specific TFI, and the part numbers above correspond correctly, would the A2A TFI only work correctly in an automatic car (87+)? And same token, would the TFI have to be changed to a A1A equivalent TFI for the distributor to placed in a 5spd, mass air car?

Make any sense or completely way off?

Default Are Mustang ignition modules transmission specific?

Or simply, why are replacement modules transmission specific, but an MSD Distributor is not, but an Accel Distributor is?

Make any sense or completely way off?

the TFI module are not totally transmission specfic in the sense that there were not created equal, but the manual transmission has a hall effect circut to allow advancing for push starts, i believe as time went on no matter if you had auto or manual, the modules all contained the hall effect circuit, but for earlier one i would stick to the correcr part number for problem free installation

Ok, so it's basically just a push start control difference. I wanted to make sure the communications between the distributor and computer were correct since the distributor and TFI is from an 86 and the computer is a 9AL from a 1990.

Thanks for the help.
