Long tube's would be the way to go, you'll have to get a mid pipe that matches that too.

That is true. So add in the cost of a good midpipe also. 2.5" or 3" exhaust will work.

+1. Any aftermarket header, shorty or not is better then the VERY restrictive stock setup

Smog is not an issue. I have a shop and do exaust so the pipes are no big deal. I was just wandering if the factory headers were worth the time to put on in place of the manifolds that are on it now or if I should just get a set of long tubes before I replace the exaust. Abuddy of mine will give me a set of factory headers but I was thinking that it would not be much better that manidolds that are on it now. What brand of long tubes are the best fit for the money? I have had great luck with headman in the past but never tried them on a fox body I can get them for $150 new. I dont want to spend more that $200 on the headers.

You put full headers, off road h-pipe and 2.5" back and you'll be amazed at the power increase...oh and the sound is something that makes any gear head smile...

I have Mac Long tubes on my 79 and they were hard to get them in and we did it the easy way (with them on a new motor). My only complaint is that the coating wore off in about 6 months. When they were new you could almost touch them after you shut off the car and the engine bay was almost normal temperature. Then the coating came off and it was like every other car.

If you get a chance get ceramic coated (I think, its the shiny kind) its suppose to be the best covering for looks and heat. I probably picked up 10-15 Hp with my setup ( I used a BBK mid pipe, long story).
