Default Pro dump exhaust question, 1990 Mustang LX

Hey guys,

I'm trying to decide what way i want to go for the exhaust on my 1990 lx. I'm defantly getting a off road x-pipe.

i just watched and listened to the video on latemodel restoration of the mac pro dump system, it sounds really nice. If i go that route i will probably just buy the pipe that go from the x-pipe to the muffler and then get some turn down tips locally for the other end of the mufflers.

Pro dump clip:

Mustang 86-95 Exhaust, Pro Dump System, 3"" by MAC at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

Or my other (more expensive) option is to go with a 2.5 inch catback, stainless stock style. In this case i'll most likey go with the pypes "beast" system.

What do you guys think, pro dump or full catback?

Is the pro-dump system excessively loud on the highway?(not that i realy care lol....)

Does either make more power than the other?

What do you think sounds better?

Do you get an exhaust smell in the car with the pro dump system?

the car is a 306 with: shorty headers, p&p e7,s under drive pulleys, and B303 cam, stock intake manifold.

soon to have 4.10's, subframe connectors, and a decent intake manifold.

Thanks,
Matt

My opinion i a dump but with what ever muffler you want. I am running dumps om my 88 GT and I love them but sometimes at around 2500 rpm it sounds like a big a$$ sub in my hatch. here is mine with flowmaster super 40's

i love the sound of dumps... take that however you want...

i had the mac setup on my 351 build and it was just killer.. i don't like the sound you get with the catback.. i mean i do, (its a typical mustang sound) but the dumps are a great tone.

you don't get the smell of exhaust in the car too much. when you're not moving sometimes you do, but for the most part not really

I love the sound a good dump too

IM SOLD..... definitely going with the dump setup. its cheaper and from what i've been listening to on youtube it sounds better to.

i don't know why more people don't do this.... doesn't seem as popular but so much simpler. i should be able to run wider tires now, i could only fit 225's, anything more was rubbing the exhaust.

I've got dumps also but I have the 2.5" pipes that go an H pipe then the flows, then about 8" of pipe which ends in a turn down. If you turn them down right under your rear seats it with sound like crap IMHO. It's a big droning sound with no tune what so ever. Some people like it though. Mine turn down at about the rear diff. With the extra pipe in front of the muffs and 8" of pipe after, it,s got a great sound with some tune in it, not just that loud ass droning. Plus it's a hellava lot quieter in the car. You can talk on the phone, listen to radio and talk to your passenger without raising your voice. It almost sounds like the catback and it was cheap to do it. I've got shorty hdrs and a offroad H. I'll do an audio clip for ya tomorrow if ya want and a couple of pis to show what I've done. But if you want to dump 'em right under the rear seats go for it, the kids love it. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Yeah Bro I'm on your side on this one. When your winding up through the gears it sounds great. Even with the windows closed you get a good sound. The sound doesn't escape as much if you have the full pipes running past the bumper. No big mega bass drone in your head if there dumped right under the seats. Best of both worlds IMHAO.

it's because most people like the look of shiny tailpipes. i've always ran dumps on my cars, but i usually have a set of dummy tailpipes hanging for looks. currently i have the tailpipes hooked up, for the first time ever. i like the sound, but i'm probably going to unhook them soon.

that sub sound you are referring to is called drone. it's not because youre car is dumped, it's the mufflers. flowmasters are NOTORIOUS for that having bad drone. all chambered mufflers are, actually. MAC pro dumps arent as bad.

I would appreciate that audio clip and those pics, your setup sounds like what i would like to run.

I'm going to stay away from the flowmasters, i have them on the car now and i'm not really a fan of the sound.

I love dumps. Never been bothered by sound and never really smell the exhaust.
