Question how to tell the difference between a t5 v8 and t5 4cyl

hi to all. i'm going to get a transmission tomarrow and i want to make sure that its a real one from a v8 and not a 4cyl. how could i tell the difference? can somebody give me the size of both input shafts? i also want to know.....the guy told me it was originally out of a 83 5.0 are them trannys any good? before buying it is there anyway i can tell if the tranny is good without taking it apart? thanks to all.

Yep, either site has good info. Lots of times the tag is "miss-placed". First chart also tells you the torque rating which can vary from 265 to 300 for the stock factory units, up to 325 for Ford aftermarket. Happy hunting!

so the way i see it if its a real 83 its not world class but is it still good? also wanted to know if i'm paying too much i can get it for 200 with bellhousing is it a good price?

mine says it was never released the numbers are 13-52-097-913

ok i got another fast question i toke the tail off the tranny and toke the top cover off to see the gears if they were ok and now i can't seem to get the cover back on for everything to line up. would anyone have a clue as to how to put the cover back on or where to find picture detail for this matter?

finally got my cover on. i like to know what year this tran is and if it is any good?its a borg warner
number on the tail is 13-52-066-919
number on the top is 13-51-097-901
number on the side is 13-52-065-908

No small metal tag on top? That's what is really needed. You can narrow it down by the chart posted earlier if it's for a 4 cyl or V-8 (input shaft length and diameter). Those numbers you posted are just the casting numbers that would have been used in many applications.
