Default Fuel Pump Question 1990 mustang gt

Recently I purchased from summit racing an EDELBROCK 17930 fuel pump (which is suppossed to be a 155lph pump).

Now I got the package from summit, and I inspect the part (just something I do to make sure I get the right part. Now I have never ordered anything before made by edelbrock. However what I have is an EDELBROCK box, with EDELBROCK instructions to install, and an EDELBROCK install kit for the pump. So far so good...pull the pump out and I have a big "W" on the side of the pump with WALBRO inside of the "W". Now I'm curious to know, what the heck fuel pump I actually have, shouldn't a Edelbrock fuel pump be stamped with edelbrock and not walbro?

I cannot find edelbrockon the pump or the matching part number anywhere on the pump.

what I can find is a walbro stamp on the pump and the numbers 516 (which I can only find to reference Original equipment fitment) and the number 5309-1 underneath the 516 number.

I called summit racing and they said call edelbrock which is just peeving me off a little, and they may loose a customer cause I think that is pretty crappy of them to make me call the manufacturer when I ordered the part from them.

I mean if I open a playstation box...I expect a playstation, not an xbox. If I open a xbox box, I don't expect to see a wii in the box.

I'm not saying anyone's product is better than the other...but shouldn't a fuel pump ordered from edelbrock have a edelbrock stamp on it and not a walbro stamp?

You bought the name... Most parts are manufactored by the same company- sold to the 2nd party who puts their name on the box and jacks the $ up... Walbro is a great pump...
What did it cost you? I ordered a back up Walbro 255 pump for $129 from Brothers Performance

I agree! They want you to call the munufacturer because they are only distributors but they should want to know the answer to this question too!

So if the pump was a walbro and came with an Eldelbrock stamp or sticker. What does that change, other than the fact that you think its an Edelbrock? Absolutley nothing! Pump still works the same. And Walbro are top of the line pumps. Summit brand pumps are the same way. They are Walbro. You cant expect every company to manufacture every part they sell.

Lifters from Ford racing or Trick Flow arent even made by Trick Flow or Ford Racing. Most valve springs are from somewhere else besides the company that sells them.

You are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

As a Summit Racing employee I'd like to apologize, I understand what you're saying. You bought an Edelbrock fuel pump so you expect an Edelbrock fuel pump. There's alot of confusion when it comes to parts like that but like somoene else mentioned its the way that Edelbrock deals with their manufacturers. Its just something that we have no control over. Now I'm not saying we don't care about it, its just that we weren't told and/or had that question before. Like someone else said its just some of the parts that everyone gets from the same manufacturer and they put it in their box. There's nothing wrong with that...all they're doing is backing up that product with the name's that you trust and making a profit because you're buying the name. Summit's fuel pump when I bought mine was also a walbro, I'm sure someone else's pump is a Walbro too. That's just the way things work, not all the companies are able to manufacture their products but that doesn't mean they are of lower quality. Edelbrock makes products for other companies that put their label on it but its still an Edelbrock manufactured part.

Going back to the point...If you're not happy with the product you can send it back but its likely that if you but a different brand you might end up with the same thing. We appreciate your business (I know I do cause that's how I make my living, by selling parts). I can assure you the pump will work as described and wont have any problems. That's why we sell the product because we know it works. Even tho we're only a distributor for someone else we test products ourselves and make sure they work. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to send me a private message.

Default Thanks for the replies

I'm pretty familiar with all the shipping and manufacturing as I drive a truck for a living and I understand that a "NAME BRAND" part is typically usually made at the same place as a NO NAME brand. I know walbro is a good pump manufacturer. My only concern is usually there is a part number on the box and a part number on the actual part and USUALLY those two numbers match. That is really my only concern as there isn't no way of matching the 2 part numbers on box and part as the numbers don't match.

Pricewise I think the part was 91 with shipping extra and its not that I'm dissatisfied with the part...its just I want to be sure the part is a 155 lph pump and not something smaller?

I'm not knocking summit racing...I just figured they would have had a little better response than call the manufacturer (meaning I figured they may have encountered this type of thing before). Lord knows most of my parts came from Summit Racing for my 1990 mustang gt and it was a pretty good chunk of change thru the years (lets just say enough I bought another mustang for less than the parts I ordered for my 1990 mustang gt...lol).

Before I get someone in here saying something about the driving the truck part above...let me clarify that. I drive a tractor trailer and pick up at manufacturers and deliver their products.

again thanks for the replies.
