i bought a 1989 mustang that was converted into a v8 it had no starter on it, i got a 89 starter n it free spins when u try to start it. i cannot find the stamp on the motor to id it. but im poisitive that its a 302 motor. dose any one kno if i take a fly wheel from another 1989 v8 mustang and take a 89 starter or in fact any other years flywheel n starter will it work because i dnt wanna take aprt the transmission for no reason. if u can help or wanna know anything else about the car can u please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Maybe its an older or newer 302 and the starter is just missing the flywheel. Are you positive it is hooked up right? Can you crawl under the car and see what is happening? I know if it going past the flywheel teeth you can make shims to bring it into contact with the flywheel. If it isnt making it to the flywheel, and the starter is working tight, then ummm, Ill leave that for someone else.
The question is not when's he gon' stop, but who is gonna stop him? ~ Super Soul
its a standerd if that makes a difference. and i cant take pics at the moment. but i do kno that 87-93 mount the same was its just the fact that the motor is not a orginal and i waws wondering if i get a fltwheel and a starter from the same year 87-93 or any 302 motor will it work because the teeth would match fine.jus not positive it will work. any insite would help
All 2 bolt Ford starters such as the ones on a Fox, F150, Lincoln, etc only come in two different pinion offsets. The starter housing can varry in size but will have only two offests. You may be running the wrong offset. If your running the 3/4 offset and need the 3/8 offset, the pinion gear will miss the flywheel.
