Default 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 stalling and surging idle problem

My 91 5.0 the first time you start it will start to stall out unless you give it a little gas. Usuallly it fires right up and idles very nicely. Then it idles at very low rpm and sputters (best way i can describe it is it sounds like it has a cam but doesnt like its always at the point of stalling). Then after about 5 minutes the idle will slowly raise to normal stay there for about 30 seconds. Then it will slowly go back to low rpm and start sputtering again. Also the power of the motor is just not there anymore. One more thing i did run the battery dead a few weeks ago and have driven it very little since then. What do i need to be checking and looking for? Bad gas? Battery? Spark plugs?

sounds like a vacuum leak or an issue with your TPS. check the voltage at your tps to determine this.

Setting the Mustang TPS Voltage

another thing you could look at is your IAC. a bad one can cause your idling issues but shouldn't affect driveability, so this probably isn't the problem. i'd check anyway, just cause it takes like 5 mins.

i have a 91 gt mustang and it will run great everywhere until it comes to a stop and sometimes when you press in the clutch it will just die but most of the time it will lope really bad and run rich and just eventually lope to where it cuts itself off. you can crank it right back up but if you dont give it the gas it will not stay running it will cut off soon as it cranks. the codes i have pulled from it is the clutch neautural switch the sensor on the distributor (which may possibly be) and the #1 coil mis firing which the sensor on the distributor may be causing it to mis fire. if its bad. what they mean by pulling the codes they mean get a OBD 1 code reader from advance or oreilly and hook it up to the test connectors on the left side sender wall inside the engine bay and plug them into the scanner and turn over your switch and it should read them for you and you look them up in your little manual booklet.
