Hopefully I'll be painting my 94GT this summer. The local Ford dealership has a great paint/body shop but I'm sure the price tag is out of my range. What's a good price range for a decent paint job?
Tks

If anyone quotes you less than $700, I wouldn't get it painted there. It'll probably be a really crappy job. Most decent paint jobs cost anywhere from $800-$1200. That includes prep work.

Thanks wilit. That's a good price range for me! Stangboy, you were reading my mind! I'll strip it down as much as I can and flatbed it over to whoever! Thanks!

I am getting a steal at just over $2300 as we speak. This is in Vegas & it's a total color change, we'll see how good it is next week. (Watch for Pictures)
When I was shopping, a total color change at Ford was $2700+ extras. Other shops where all over 2k.
Keep in mind though, this are quotes on Shermin Williams metallic paint, body prep & mask, a few dings, preping & putting on a new 5 piece body kit (kit cost not included), several clear coats, & five year warranty. Should be real nice.
Car Craft Mag has a great articale about preping the car yourself and just using a shop to spray her, it sound like a solid plan.
Good Luck...

This time around it's a 95GT Conv AODE
I paid 2500 for mine, I stripped the car and installed a new rear quarter panel. They did the body work and ground effects. The price was paint and labor only.
If you want a good one bro you going to pay at least and I mean at least 1500. I do some prep work for my cousin and even with a family discount i paid 1800. The cheapest he's done is 1500 and he's a perfectionist. If he messes one spot up he'll strip the whole car and repaint.
Well if someone messes up one spot , you don't strip the WHOLE
car and paint it again .
Thats dumb !!!!
Bodyshops fix scratches/blems all the time .
They don't repaint the whole car .
It's called blending .
Price depends on kind of paint , amount of prep needed , ect...
You got your single stage and basecoat/clearcoat and tri-coats .
A gallon of Dupont basecoat costs about $308
Cheap gallon of clear and qt of activator is about $100.
Good clear is $ 200 a gallon by itself .
You could buy your own supplys and hire someone to shoot it .
There are alot of "illegal" bodyshops around .
They could shoot it cheap .
Even cheaper buy your own spray gun and DIY .
A show job will cost more .
A more modern bodyshop would be suggested .
It looks like i'm going to wait and save some more ca$h. Never having painted a car before, I can't believe the price of paint! It seems that this is definitely a case of "You get what you pay for"
"Even cheaper buy your own spray gun and DIY"............
You aint seen me paint BRO! I do appreciate the advice though!!!
Thanks for the input guys!

Earl Shibes or Mako [sic] do fine jobs IF the prep work is done. I'm talking about a 'stripped' car and trailered to them.
I've seen great paint jobs come out of the cheapo places. Not show stuff, but equal to OEM.
How they do it so cheap, as the materials alone cost the $300 or so for most shops, and make money has me scratching my head...
I think they can do it for so little $ because they shoot the car with a fairly inexpensive enamel and don't always clearcoat. They also do very little prep work.
If you do the prepwork yourself and have a cheapo place do it, your car may not look bad but it won't look as nice as an acrylic laquer or urethane enamel with an equivalent clearcoat.
