Default Very dissapointed with summit racing.

Well, I am no longer a summit racing customer which is a shame since ive spent a good amount of money with them over the last 2 years. I bought a set of summit brand headers and im lucky if they were on the car for more than 2k miles since I bought them last April. Well I just took them off today to make sure I did not have an exhaust leak before I tore the lower intake off to check for a bad lifter. Let me tell you I sure am glad I took them back off. The flanges on both of them are more than just warped......they are twisted!!!!!! So I called them and asked if they had any warranty to back them and they said sure we have a 90 day...well obviously its been over 3 months so they arnt covered. I asked if there was anthing that could be done becuse there is no way they sould be warped like that after being on the car for a total of ~6 months. Needless to say they said there is nothing they can do about it. If you ask me thats some pretty ****** craftsmen ship...and If you cant stand behind a product that bears your name. The only way they could have warped that bad is either the metal was impure, or they were already slightly warped when I purchased them and over time the heat from the car just magnified the imperfection. Ive never seen this happen, in this way before and I have dont a lot of exhaust headers for me and friends of mine. So I just put my stock manifolds back on.....Can someone telly me why these almost 20 year old manifold flanges can be straight as an arrow but the "performance" headers I got cant even make it a full year before they fall to crap??????????? OH and this is the straw the broke the camels back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the tech told me to use 2 sets of gaskets per header...thats what others have to do!!!!!! Are you freakin serious....how bout you take 2 gaskets and stick em up your azz. That tells me they know they have a suspect product and that they have no plans of revising or checking into it.

Any way, just wanted to vent.

well..you get what you pay for...summit doesnt manufacture them, they source them from somewhere else and "re-brand" them... inferior chinese garbage made from recycled woks...

sucks, but when it comes to car parts, it usually costs twice as much to save a buck...

pretty much what he said. I have bought products from them and quite honestly, any private brand from any place is always a slightly lower quality. if you want headers, which are one of the most abused parts of any engine, then you spend the money. And they have their warranty for a reason. if they only warranty their work for 90 days, dont expect it to last for more than a hundred.

Sorry if i seem a little bitter at you, i worked in retail for a long time and i really dont understand why people dont get this. Yes its ****** of them to not do SOMETHING for you, but what are you gunna do? And its a bit irrational to not buy from summit. theyre the best place to get just about anything you could need, and usually are much better about warranties. Bought a set of headlights that started leaking after 18 months, and they exchanged them no problem.

Ya man I think they prob should of exchanged them it they were defective, headers should never warp. But summit is a wonderful company an I've spent thousands with them an never had a problem except them sending extra parts to me(which I sent back)lol

It's just one of those things, tons of customers every once in awhile someone is gunna have a bad order from them.

lol, I know how the parts thing works. Sometimes I do take chances on things, such as these headers and sometimes it does come back to bite me. I try to be carefull when doing so though. I wont buy no name ebay stuff but I figured that summit, being as big as they are would have been at least half way decent. The thing that really pissed me off is telling me to use 2 gaskets per side. That tells me they know they have a problem with that particullar product. I do fully agree that you get what you pay for when it comes to parts, and even if something aftermarket does work well its still normally a pain in the butt to get it to fit right. Just felt like venting. At least you guys backed me up.........sort of .

"Sum Ting Wong Motorsports" ? :laughlitt

All jokes aside, what happened to you does suck and Summit should at least give you a good discount on any future products you buy from them. According to what you've mentioned, they just went with the "it's your problem" response.

i would take any "tech advice" the summit guys give you with a grain of salt...they're order takers, not engine builders,ya know?

like the typical parts store counter clerk these days...you give them a part #, and they still cant find the damn part on the shelf unless you can tell them what year/make/model

i had a set of summit/proform rockers on my car...defective garbage nearly cost me my engine...so in the long run, saving an initial $100 on a set of rockers cost me like $800 in the end...learned that lesson the hard way..

Im gonna jut keep the stock manifolds on there. I plan on going turbo next May. Ive had some time to cool down a little bit. It was a long day yesterday and the last thing I thought was gonna happen was me finding out about that. I should buy another set from them, then call them back up 2 months after purchase and send these messed up ones back and tell them I want my money back.......Then I would have a brand new set free of charge!

take it with a grain of slat, but if youre calling at an off-peak time (befor enoon usually) try and BS a little with the guys. a lot of htem ARE engine builders or mechanics-in-training (think about it, it gives them business after those guys start working in a garage). I found one guy who was doing a similar build, and he gave me some good tips on what parts to get from what company.

its the summit brand not summit for the $20 dollars you save it will cost you in the long run. I built a motor for a friend and he wanted to do an all summit parts build 355. Well motor worked fine he put about 2500 miles on it so we figured it was time for a romp after the ring lans snaped on 2 of the summit piston and scraced the block summit said if we would have got weisco piston that were only $50 more they would have covered them. So i buy no more summit parts but they are a great other wise. What need for speed said you get what you pay for and i will never buy there parts but i have ordered parts many times since and no probs

I order everything I buy from Summit...not Summit brand, but that's where I shop. Same day flat rate shipping, yes please. They even sent me a 5 blade Schick razor last order...I'd been growing a beard for 8 months at the time..they must not have approved.

the flat rate shipping sucks ass when you need something small and your $5 item costs like $17 or whatever...i buy very little from them...you can usually find the same stuff on the internets cheaper...
