Suggested price to rebuild rear end and install gears?

Hey all, I have a 1984 mustang gt and currently am still using the puny 7.5 rear end. I pulled an 8.8 from out of the junkyard the other day and want to have some 3.73s installed and have it completely rebuilt. I've called a few local shops and the cheapest I've found is $600 if I supply the gears. What do you think?

1984 Mustang Gt T-top, 91 HO block, Rebulit 306, Full Eibach Pro Suspension, Bbk shorty H-pipe, Bbk longtube headers, flowmasters, 600 edlebrock carb. edlebrock performer intake manifold, smog pump/a/c delete, New Control arms, rueben racing cam, more to come soon...

That's not bad. Two things I would highly recommend:
1. Make sure you use a reputable shop
2. I would have the T-lok rebuilt using the carbon fiber clutch packs and heavy-duty spring:

You could see if any shop will cut you some slack if you do some of the work. I paid 100.00 to have mine done, but I took the rear end out of the car and did the work so all they had to do was put the gears in. I was putting in upper and lower control arms, shocks, and springs at the time too, so it wasnt too much efferot to yank the entire thing out.

96 explorer motor, tubular UCA and LCA, bbk shorties, 2 1/2 h-pipe, 3.73 gears.

$4-500 is about right. Although a good mechanic should do it in 5 hours I would think. If you supply the gears I would be searching for $400 I would also probably switch to this with a set of Moser or Strange axles. http://rover.ebay.com/ar/1/711-53200...5&toolid=10001 REBUILT FORD 8.8 POSI TRAC-LOC POSI 31 SPLINE F150 MUSTANG 8 PLATE NEW BEARINGS | eBay

That 31 spline w/ extra clutch pack and the heavier f150 spring is a big plus, especially for your build. You are going to break an axle.

I wouldn't spend $200 for a T-lok, but that's just my $.02

Yeah I know what you mean I spent two hundred on my auburn unit but it was used and isnt rebuildable. These are the only two units I would use on the street. Unless you have the money for a Auburn E unit.

I am having some noise issues with my Eaton Truetrac right now, but I do love they way it operates, and it's very streetable.
I have ridden in a couple other Mustangs with Truetracs and they were silent, mine makes a popping when it's warm while coasting.
