Default 83 t-top mustangs or any other t-tops

i recently aqured a 83 t-top mustang 5.0

the plans for the stang are to vonvert the front end to the 87 and newer hood and front bumper.

so far i havent seen any pics or anything of a finished or clean t-top. i got steal on this car because its in need of alot of tlc, right now its in primer and needs a tranny. kinda lookin for t-5 but may toss 4speed in it cause i found one for cheap.

anyways im curious how the t-top cars look when theyr done.

also im not sure what the plans for this car are, right nnow its not drivable and doesnt need to be, so plans might be going from mild to wild as my head turns. ive got a 460 block so the plans may change in heart beat as this thing may be perfect candidate for alittle big block power and 1/4 mile runs

but im new to mustangs so i no need in makn this a non street car, though it would be cool.

anyways any pics and or info would be greatly apreciated

thanks

Evan

Helllo, welcome to the world of mustangs!!!!!!

The 4 eyed front ends are classic as all hell, and probably the meanest looking front ends around! Cruise over to four eyed pride.com and look at some of the pictures in the gallery. I think you'll find that the last thing you ever would want to do is to convert that front end over. Honestly, many people see the 87+ "aero front end as kinda boring, and that is what makes the 4 eyed front end good. If you do convert, you are going to get a LOT of hell from the entire mustang community, as this is heavily frowned upon. If you must have that front end, ford made an 87/88 ttop mustang, please sell the 83gt to a restorer and get a mustang with the proper front end.

Good luck with your car!

here is an example of what I consider some nice four eyed rides, most have ttops

83 GT T-Tops are quite rare. I have an 84 LX vert, I love the look. My buddy has an 86 GT T-top. Do yourself right, keep it four eyed, it'll be different than everyone elses. If you need any help, let us know!!! Like he said, check out foureyedpride.com for more info.

heres the deal, this car bacicaly walked right inot my hands. tradded a non running 78 reg cab ford 3/4 4wd truck for it. straight across.

the stang came with the 4speed tranny and a 5 speed that was behind a 4 banger.

if you must know everything is original right down to the spare in the back, all except for the centerline wheels and tires and heavy dose of primer.

compared to the 87 and newer front ends it seems kinda boreing to me.

im wanting fast a car that can have fun on the 1/4mile strip as well as around town and cros country, the 82 capri im driving now just isnt cuting i with its inline 6.

well see what happens with the front end, ive already stole the front end off 90 stang, all i need for the 83 to match it are the skirting ,hood and headlights. gona go with dual inlet hood at the front section instead of huge cowl hood, i cant stand those.

this car also needs a windsheild wich is kinda a bummer cause im not going to enjoy chaneing it.

this car is getn in the way to, ive converted my ifs chevy truck to straight axle i need to finish it then work on the stang, well the stang somhow has gotten prioty over my truck ohhhhhhhhwell.

anyways thanks for the replies, the 90 front end didnt cost a dime so ill see what ahappens, even though i think the 83 front is fugly

thanks

Why anyone would want to make that look like an all-too-common '87-'93 GT or LX is beyond me.

Converting is not a simple matter of bolting on a different front bumper cover and a hood. You have to make wiring harness changes to the headlamp circuits (going from four headlamps to two headlamps and changing the configuration of the turn and park lamps). That in itself turns out to be a hack job 98% of the time it's attempted. Most people don't bother changing the mouldings all around and a lot of the time the rear bumper cover. Mismatched mouldings look like total crap.

Honestly, if you want the aero look, sell the '83 to someone who WANTS the four eye look and then buy an aero car. If you want one with a T-roof, they're not that uncommon.

WAIT WAIT WAIT

You're butchering an original 83? the 87 and up front end looks more boring than the 4eyes, it looks like a tempo on 'roids! do the right thing, man. 95% of these conversions never work. the people who do them are too lazy to swap over trim, wriing, get the panels lined up correctly, etc.

I'd consider this rice, you're making the car look like something it isn't. You don't want to be grouped in the same category as this, would you?

Not to mention, most of the mustang community will hate you for this, and you'll probably not get very much help in doing so.

been doing some lookin and im startn to see some i like quite alot, heres one.

http://www.mustangttop.com/detail.php?id=00000001087

poked into the 4speed tranny today to make sure it was good, hopefully tomorro ill gete the tranny in and get the motor ready to be fired up, grabbed new plugs wires cap n rotor k&N exstreme oil and filter. and thats about it. might want to drain the tank of itd old fule and run alittle out tranny fluild through the fuel and dump alittle down the carb as shes running. then shut it off before it burns it all so that it shits on the valves and soaks into the sludge. or breaksa them loose if theve been crusted up over the years.

i also found out the car has been sitn for 3-5 years wich isnt a good thing. shes probly going to be a leakn siff ounce its runing. its got veru fresh motor in it, i tlked the the guy that built it and its suposebly strong.

im half tempted to just yank it and toss all new seals in it for good measure, along with cam and 4 barrel intake. and get rid of all the smog stuff on it, completly strip it of any un necesarys, we dont have to pass smog emissions here so im not worried about that

thats were were standing

did alittle dinkn with thestabg this evening didnt get the tranny int but ohhwell, picked up battery for it for tomorrow, hoping to fire here up.

pulled the spark plugs because i was going to change them, pulled the first one out and it looked brand new like it had never been used pulled the second one and the same. hmmmmmm checkd them all and the looked the same so the plugs all went back in unchanged. im thinkn man has this thing ever been run.

i also have no idea what this car is now, when i yanked the filter assembly off i shockede to find a 4barel carb. i was under the impresion it was 2barrel, kinda half assed tried to see what carb it was to see if it was stock or aftermarket but i didnt see any marking on it. im wondering if this things and HO, and if so if its a factory HO..

Im not sure if im susposed to be posting all this here so ill check and see if theres abetter more specific forumn for all my rambling.

this car has got me rambln alot.

Dont change the front it would be a shame to do that. i have a 1983 t-top coupe and I was going to do that but I changed my mind. I have one awards for it now because I left the factory look on it.

Whatever you do, GET SUBFRAME CONNECTORS. Full length. The toughest **** you can get. I've got 2 86 T-Tops right now, and I hafta scrap one body because the roof cracked and the car is stressed to shits. So spend the time and money on strengthening the chassis and frame so your car KEEPS looking good.
And if you don't like the four eyed look, just get the lens covers instead of changing the front end. That is not a pretty job. But 4 eyes rock :P
But, before you really start getting into her, did you take off the headliner by the headframe to look and see if it's rusted out? Inspect the part of the roof right in top of the windshield from both sides, and if you see any rust or something not right, fix it. JB weld is your friend.
