Default Finally, I bought a 5.0

I've been waiting for this day since I was 15. Bought a SUPER clean 1986 GT, 5spd, 90k miles. Paint is 2 years old, interior is 2 years old.. no rust anywhere. Has BBK headers, BBK offroad H pipe, 2 chamber flowmasters. I bought a 5" monster tach with shiftlight today and got it installed. The battery went dead on me tonight, and the clutch cable is junk.. so tomorrow I have to go get a battery and a cable. I paid $3700 for the car, it pulls REAL hard for a fairly stock mustang.. the gears are real low in the car... if I had to guess, the car will run at 150-155 mph and only turn 4700 rpms(INSANE top end). Only thing it needs besides a battery and clutch cable is a short throw shifter and some nice weld wheels. I'll post pictures monday or tuesday when I get home.

Congrats on the purchase, I bet it sounds really nice, with the flows and the bbk stuff, keep it that way, you never wanna mess with the breed, you should definatley upgrade to mass air though, I got my whole set up for only $190.

Thanks, Yeah.. I'll probably end up upgrading to mass air eventually. But first I wanna get some wheels and a shifter, then I'm going to start doing various other performance mods.

Are you going to upgrade to 5lug 4wheel Disc Brakes? I'd highly recommend it, it can get costly unless you do your research and hit up the local junkyards.

That's cool man, I hope you get it. I just installed a new alternator on mine today, she's charging so it's all good. I'm waiting on my cousin to come over and rig my clutch cable up to get me by until I can afford to buy a good adjustable one.

The gear ratio must be 'high' then. That car doesn't have enough horsepwer to make it to 130mph IMHO.

Sounds like you gat a great buy in any case and I'm looking forward to you posting your modifications .

That's what I meant, they are high gears lol. 2.73's I guess.. is the 86 the worst year? and what made it the worst? Next summer I plan on getting a HP stage 1 single turbo kit for it and run it til the stock motor goes, then replace it with something a little better.. maybe a stock 89 motor or something since the 86's apparently sucks so bad according to some people.

The '86s have the one-year-only "high swirl"(or something like that) heads.
With those heads came pistons that don't afFORD as much clearance as all
other years. You just have to be alot more careful spec'ing out your heads
and cam - if you retain the '86 pistons.
The stock '86 heads are not known for their performance potential, but
almost certainly can be modified to produce more power.

I understand. Hey I have another question, do any of you guys leak oil at all? This car has almost 91k on it and it leaks a little bit, I noticed where it was previously parked.. there was a small puddle. Nothing real serious, but I'm just curious if anyone else leaks a little.. wanna make sure it's not a bad sign. I checked the oil earlier today, it could use a quart.. so.. what do you guys think?
