Exclamation drag racing a 5-spd

i am getting ready to buy a stock motor 5-spd GT, it does a centerforce clutch and steeda adjustable clutch quadrant. I have never drag raced a 5-spd car. I am looking for any tips or techniques on shifting and launching. I have to start somewhere.

Leave out at 5000 rpm and shift it like you stoke it!

Practice practice practice. But, if using street tires, launch somewhere between 2000 and 3000rpm's, slipping the clutch a little. Not sure the optimum where to shift at with stock motor.

I agree, I launch at about 1800-2200 and power shift it...takes some practice..save your racing for the track and keep it off the street.

Your gonna have to just get a feel for your own car...You need to find out at what rpm your motor starts topping off at..Mine is about 5500 rpms...That is where i shift..Whatever you do..Try not to spin...Just baby it off the line into second gear then let it eat...Remember..No matter how much power you have..It ain't worth a damn if you can't keep it on the ground...Goodluck Friend..
