1986 Mustang GT/LX 5.0L EPA fuel mileage ratings:

Automatic AOD = 17 MPG city/26 MPG highway
Manual T-5 = 17 MPG city/25 MPG highway

I recently clocked 24 MPG highway with my high-mileage, oil burning, hooptie of an '86 GT.

How do they figure the autos get better mileage than the 5 speeds?

Thanks for the response! We decided not to go with that car, they wanted way too much for it! So we're still shopping around, we did find a couple of 93's so we'll see!!!!!!!!

I juss wrecked my 1986 GT 5.0 HO hatchback. Wasn't that bad on gas. When ya lay into her she'll bark em n brake em loose really easy. be carefull!!! Newayz i have an 1987 GT performer, body in fair condition, that I'm droping my 5.0 and t-5 tranny into. Hopefully I'll have it all going by this weekend, wiring everything is a pain. The previous owner cut wireharness and hoses looks a mess. Another project........P.S..BUY IT!!!

I bought my 86 with no rust on the body or underbody for only $3500, how much is the one u looked at? It only had 77,000 original miles at purchase date.

24 sounds about right. I took a road trip in my 90 gt ragtop automatic and got 24 with it too. I have plenty of miles on it to.

A mustang v8 or any performance car with a big engine is not going to get good gas milage. If your concerned about milage by a hybrid. Advertised milage doesn't apply when you start pushing on that go pedal... And once you get hooked on ur stang you'll be doing that all the time..
