greetings gang, in spring i plan on dropping lots of money on my car. first thing is rebuild upper half of engine with heads/intake/cam setup, which is yet to be determinded. but then i want to do something to the exterior too to seperate it from the stock gt's running around.
Im looking at either a saleen body kit with the s281 wing or 351 wing, or making it into a cobra exterior (hood ,bumpers ,replacing gt decals with cobra ones). I really like the saleen look, and its rareness, but at the same time some people dont know what saleen is and will wonder what i got, everyone knows cobra and knows there fast. So what should i go with in your opinion?
Thanks...

I went with the Cobra looks, to be honest, the 94-95 cobra rear spoiler with the stop light is a CHARM... you just need to get read of the stop light in the trunk... for a "quick fix" I had it painted white, so it looks fine but you can still see the lines around it, when I have time I'm leaving the car at the shop so they can fill that spot and paint the trunk.
Now, it's always better to have an original than a "wannabe", so maybe a Cervini's, Xenon, Stalker, etc package would be better if you wanna have a "one of a kind" car, cuz there are a lot of cobra/saleen replicas outhere...
I agree, id stay with the original body. I see a lot of guys with fox bodies trying to pass them of as cobra's because of the ground effects kit and the Snake emblem. But when someone tells me its a 91 Cobra, they get the big I'd stick with originality but of course its your car. as far as the saleen vs cobra idea... they both look great, id be happy with either of them

i dont want something outrageous like the sho-gun or something, i want something that looks like it belongs on the car. I am still trying to decide, i like both, saleen i think looks sleeker and nicer but cobra just says power. keep in mind that this is after im done dumpin cash into the engine, i hope to be around 350 hp

I say go with what you like, and don't worry what people think it may or may not be.
fixing up cars is all about uniqueness and individual taste. Mix it up. Thats what I do. find the right combination you like. You don't have to go all Saleen or all Cobra. Besides, if you try to keep up with whats popular on cars and what other people like, you will be spending lots of money.
When I bought my 94 Cobra new, no body knew what it was. Then some started saying it was not real. Then when 96 rolled around and cobra's became higher production, suddenly everyone had one. But mine was still unique, because I made it that way. Body parts are one thing, but it's all in the details that makes it unique. I took off certain emblems. Had a few pieces painted. polished my wheels. etc, etc.
just my .02

Either way you go it'll look nice. But pesonally I would stay away from using the Saleen and Cobra decals and emblems since it's a GT. I also like the idea of mixing different parts, so long as they go well together and don't clash. I've always wondered how a Saleen front bumper and side skirts would look with a Xenon rear valance on a 94-98.
cobra hood, cobra front and rear bumper, then a saleen s281 wing. which looks like a lip instead of a wing. im not worried about doing this stuff until i do the engine. next choice ...
Trick FLow Cam/heads/intake
or
Gt 40 Heads / e303 cam / cobra intake

I went and bought the Saleen kit for my '95 and ended up returning it because the quality was so poor. Full of air bubbles and the accent ridges would be sharp at some parts and rounded in others. It would have cost me well over $1000 in prep and paint to have it done right. So now I'm in the same boat as you, what to do....

94-95 rear bumper just said "Mustang" not "Cobra"... And hood was the same... I really like the stock hood over the Cobra in the 5.0's... but hey, it'se YER car, isnt it?
