Re: Most hp from a 302?????

500Hp is pretty much the limit I think, then the blocks tend to crack.

Cant say from first hand experience, hopefully i can get up to around 500 after some more money, work, and about another year. But from what Ive heard any more than 500 on the stock block and its gone.

Yeah, you can get a better block. You can buy just about anything to replace the original 302. Pistons, connecting rods, crank..... You can stroke it to a 347. I know a guy who has a 900 hp 92 that runs 8.60s with a small block. Now if we are talking about all new components: Dart block, Ross pistons, or whatever with an unlimited budget, the possibilities are endless. However, if we are talking about the stock bottom end, 500 hp is about the max.

I would never try to push the stock 302 block beyond 550 HP, ever.

My understanding is that anything over 500hp and the block is on borrowed time.

Although the block lacks 4 bolt mains, the 'bottom end' is not really the problem.

There is just not enough metal in the lifter galley area and that is where the block can crack at about 500HP or so.

If going higher just start with a 351W.:thumbsup

My old 306 made over 700 with a turbo when the previous owner had it. He split the previous block at 775.

the block can be push pretty hard i would recomend putting on a stud girdle tho so it strenghens the block a bit ill be pushing aroung 550-600 on mine. if it blows up its just a reason to build a bigger and bader motor lol.

347 stroker,AFR 185cc heads,comp cam # 35-556-8, edelbrock rpm 2 intake,255lph fuel pump, g force racing transmission, 4.88s in the rear, 8 point roll bar,battery relocation.
11.81 at 114 mph.(best so far)
