Default Tire Sizes and Choosing Rims

Greetings fellow 'StangBangers.

Got a quick question for ya, hoping that you all might be able to help me out on this one.

I'm beginning to search for the type of rim that I'd like to sit on my Fox. It will have to be a 5 lug because I'm upgrading the front and rear rotors and brakes and bring the stock 4 to aftermarket 5 lug. However, I've come across a question I just can't seem to answer.

My current tire size is 245 50 r 16 . The current rims are those pretty little 16 inch ponies and I love the way the silver contrasts the black on my Stang. The tires have less than 2,000 miles on them and are going to be good... for awhile! So, I'm going to keep the current tires. Which, there in, lies the problem.

So, I've come to the experts and the opinionated. Will a 17 inch rim fit on these "16" tires? Is there any specific dimensions on my future rim that I'll need to use and narrow down my search? Any other important information that anyone might be able to give me in my Quest for these Rims?

All help would be appreciated.

Thanks, boys.

nope.
16 inch tires wont fit on a 17 inch rim. no how, no way.

but look at it this way man. leave those tires mounted on the ponies, and sell them as a package. youll make your money back for the tires, and get a good chunk of change for the wheels. plus you can upcharge a little for the tires being mounted and balanced. and for shipping of course

they will sell in a heartbeat on ebay. pony wheels are popular, and hard to find in good shape.

youll be doing yourself a favor by getting your NEW 17" wheels with the tires on them already as well.

good luck man. check out the 17" bullitts in the charcoal, youll love em.

Ah, see, I was afraid of that when I purchased the tire. You're right, though... that would probably be my best bet.

I thought about going with the extreme drag feel, having skinnies in the front and fatties in the back. It would certainly help me obtain my dream of getting that front end completely into the air... but, I think I'll keep all the tires the same size.

By the way, truuble, I'm still waiting on that gift of extra money you could spare me.

your broke because of that 10 sec. monster hiding under the hood! I syill wish I had your car though. Hell I'll be happy to break into the low 12s in street trim. Hey young with all that money tied up under your hood, hold off and get what you want. No matter what 4 or 5 lugs 17's will fit, just remember your backspacing. I have 17x9 all around and they fit fine, but if I was to do it again I would run 17x8 front 17x9 rear, also I'm running 245/45's right now, any bigger in the front would cause a lot of rubbing. the rear can run up to 275/40 or 275/45 i believe i'm not to pos. on that so you may want to check that out. but if you want to run 17's 245/45 will keep everything stock at stock stats.
