Default Broken seat frame

Any fellow fox body owners have the "gangster lean" due to the driver's seat frame being broken? I rember an article a few years back in muscle mustang about welding the broken peice. I've got an '86 seat that needs to be refinished, would it be possible to take the covering and pad from a '91 gt seat and transport it to the '86 frame?

I've got the same problem on my car.. I've seen subframe connectors that have the seat re-enforcements built in- I think its supposed to eliminate the problem going forward.

I think all mustangs seats 79-93 are the same, not sure though

I know the mounting points are the same, I'ld just like to save a few $ if possible. A local mustang place wants $400 for a pair of front seats which I think is way too much.

You just remove the cover and take the seat to someone with a mig and 10 minutes later your putting the cover back on and bolting in the seat. Will last forever now because the spot welds that the seat manufactured had done has to much spacing for a single latch seat to keep the support.

I thought that was what the article said. Anyone know of a reputable person with a welder in the Lawrence, KS area?

If you want to re-cover your seats check out "CJ Pony Parts" and "50resto.com" they have kits to re-cover your seats. Cloth, vinyl and leather much cheaper then buying new seats. I think the vinyl seat sets are less then 400 bucks front and rear

that happend to me too, but it ripped the stud that actualy bolts the seat to the floor, thru the floor..

Too many 5,500 rpm launches on 26x10.50s did that

Default fixed it

I previously owned an '86 GT which had a nasty seat covering so I bought a junkyard seat that looked good and tossed the ugly seat in my parents garage. Fast forward 5 years, still there, stripped the seat covering off to find the same thing happened to it but the previous owner had welded the seat back. Transferred all the hardware, put the cover back on and fit perfect. I forgot how it felt to have a drivers seat that didn't lean back everytime I shifted.
