well i finally was able to go to the 1/4 mile drags to see what i would run, and the conditions were horrible! there was a really strong head wind all day, and it was dusty too. It was like driving in a sand storm in egypt! But anyways my car ran like crap... best time was a 15.3. We adjusted my timing up to 12 degrees right before my first run to see what difference it would make... but i think it might have been pinging down the track cuz it sounded almost like something was rattling, but i didn't have anything that could have been rattling... that could explain my car running poorly, but i think it was mostly the wind... What do you guys think? do you think it was pinging at 12* running 91 octane? When i drove it home, and everyday i've driven it since then i havn't heard it pinging, and it accually feels a little stronger... Maybe it was just the wind... i dunno i'm just pissed that i couldn't get an accurate 1/4 mile time.

I assume you mean Fontana? I was there as well and it's not a good track for solid times. Yeah, the wind was at least a 20 mph head wind. They only prep the track once, it raises 50-ft from start to end, etc. For examaple, a well driven C5 Z06, at a good track in good weather can and has gone anywhere from 11.7-12.2 @117-119. One of the Vette guys was running 12.2's@121-122 with a C5 Z06 packing headers, cat-back intake and a 100 shot on drag radials. Your standard C6 should be able to run high 12's@112-113. If not the ET, at least the mph should be there. The stock C6 there that day ran 13.65@108.9 for his best of the day. Granted driver plays a lot in our times, that particular track doesn't help matters. I ran a best of 12.89@112.6 (2.2) with 397/387 SAE with my C6. Quite slow for my car IMO.

3. I'll take the ugly one.

You shouldn't here pinging at 12*...Do you have newer rockers? One could be loose..

nope no newer rockers, seems to be running fine lately, this weekend i'll adjust the timing a lil higher or as high as i can without it pinging and we'll see where were at then... i think i'll just stick to irwindale speedway from now on... my car seems to run better there. lol.
I'm running 16 initial out here in Pheonix with 91 octane, and I've only heard a little ping at the top end of the track in the middle of summer, but any other times it has been fine.
Are you still running iron heads? and how many miles are on the motor?

well i dont think its pinging now, been driving it for about 2 weeks and haven't heard pinging again. yes i'm still running the stock heads, and the motor either has 140,000 miles or 240,000 miles... i'm guessing the first one. I didn't get a chance to change the timing this weekend because my brother still had the timing light in his car, and he was gone. So my timing is still at 12*, but when i get a chance i'll see if i can bump it to 13*or 14*.

Still have the stock cam?
Other things to consider - your rotating mass has greatly increased over stock, the wheels, tires, and brakes are going to affect your ability to accelerate.
If you're running the stock cam & gears, that's a good time for a GT auto with 17" tires/wheels and big brakes.

yeah, still stock cam. I realize that my best 1/8th mile time that is posted in my sig is pretty good, but on this day at the track my best 1/4 time was a 15.3 with a 10.1 1/8th mile. So i thought i would at least be breaking the 14's.... but i guess it just wasn't my day.
