Alright so check it out. I just got my 5.0 and i was thinking in a couple of months ill probably have the money to replace the 4 speed automatic transmission. Ive looked into the t5 and t56 and there both pretty cool, but everyone does that. So i was thinking of going with gear vendors attachment that adds 4 gears to the stock automatic. Therefore i would have an 8 speed automatic. The advantage of this would be that i could keep my RPMs up throughout every gear and in result making it even quicker. I dont know if anyone has heard of this but i know gear vendors is reliable company and they back all their parts. Plus, in several magazines i dont know if you guys have seen them but ive seen adds for this attachment and its usually of a camaro or 5.0 mustang doing a wheely to promote their products. Well anyways, it seems like the 8 speed auto would be something different, and probably just as quick. What do you guys think?
I haven't heard much info on this 8 speed auto but i have heard about a 7 speed auto. They have them in mercedes that are just coming out as like a 1200.00 dollar option. Its a smart tranny that can jump up to 4 gears. So if you feel like flooring it from the get go it will go from 1st to 5th automatically. This saves you the time of changing each gear, puts less stress on the engine. And it also makes you faster. i would reccamend going with the 8 speed auto
I guess that would be pretty cool. Definitely different. Plus you would be able to use a big gear like a 4.56 or something and still run on the street with no problem as far as gas mileage or running at too high of an RPM. But what about power-loss. How much power are you gonna lose by using that?

Hey all! I have a Gear Vendors over/under in my Diesel F 350 with a E4OD. You actually dont get 8 speeds, it will automatically shift into over @ 40 mph in my truck, then you can split your gears. It works very well pulling my race car trailer. I have towed as far as Wyoming from SoCal to race, and the Rocky Mountains don't bother my Diesel a bit. I know of a dude that has a Gear Vendor O/U on his Galaxie, 427 4spd w/ 4:88s. And he drives long distance to Car shows, and does a little bit of Strip action too!! Think about it! Desert Dale.
So does that galaxy actually have inproved performance because of the gear venders or is it just mainly so he can drive long distances? Because from the way i interpret it to be its going to make it shift alot quicker and the rpms will stay up rather jumping from like 5000 rpms to like 2000 rpms from a lower gear to a higher gear... And if that occurs then id think that you would get performance like no other. I understand that a stick you can take up to any rpm you want but with the gear venders you would have 2 extra gears making it capable to shift much quicker and not having to loose power between gears. If my understanding of this product is anywhere near correct please let me know!
Are you towing something? or are you going 300mph? Theres no need for that many gears!!!

Actually, if you really think about it the more gears the better. Why do you think all those expensive sports cars have like 6-7 gears? The more gears means that you can keep the rpms wherever you want. So for instance, back in the 60's i know there were 2 speed trannys and the problem with that was that either the accelleration or the top speed was going to have to be given up in order to make up for the limited gears. So pretty much it would take forever to get the cars rpms up. Luckily the part that made up for that in the 60's was that cars would be easily pushing 250hp. But anyways, i dont think you guys have seen the gearvenders article thats in SEVERAL MAGAZINES, it shows a 5.0 doing a wheely. Clearly showing that it is used in cars such as these.
