Well . . . I think I'm changing combos again. I'm taking the car off the street and going race-only with it. So, I'm likely to get rid of the 331 and put a carbed, high compression, 460 in it. With that (and the weight loss from stripping all the "street stuff") I should be running 9s. In other words, I might be skipping the 10s all together.

And, with the 460 on spray, it should go 8s. I probably won't use nitrous for bracket racing unless I can get it dialed in to the point of predictability.

Yeah . . my 60 foot was off by over a tenth, too. If I had cut my usual 1.59 60, It would have been a 10 second pass.

Yep. I'm talking about the World Products 351 based 460 stroker.

But, truth be told, a regular big block will fit as well. But if I do that, I'm doing a 514.

Why don't you do a fuel injected/blown/nitous combo and use the same blower you do now?

Very simple, my son. I need my car to be less complicated.

I learned a valuable lesson at the NHRA Divisionals. Our team captain blew a head gasket in the first round. Because he won the round, he needed to fix the problem. His combo was so simple that he was able to change the head gasket trackside in about 45 minutes.

With my current combo, I couldn't even GET to my heads in 45 minutes . . let alone change the gasket.

No more fuel injection for me. No more computers. No more forced induction. No more complications. I am going big cubes, high compression, with a carb. And, I'll have a car that runs the number consistently.

I love that aproach. Simple is better and there's no replacement for displacement. Good luck with the swap. I'm sure this winter is going to be busy for you.

Yep. It'll be a busy off season. I have to have it all dialed in by mid January for the first points race.

Wow man, that's not long to get so much done. Good luck with it.

It's not as much as you might think. It's more removal of parts than addition. I already have Stiegemeir ported TFS HighPorts with 2.06 intakes that will flow just fine for the 460.

It's really a matter of swapping out the shortblock, getting rid of the computerized crap, and putting an intake and carb on. (ok . . it's a little bit more than that . . but not much).

Yeah, fabbing up motor mounts, rear crossmember, coolant hoses...yeah it'll be a load of work.

With a 351 based 460, all that stuff will be the same. The only difference is the deck height (so, I'll have to massage the exhaust a little).

Wow, I didn't think a 351 block would drop in to a mod motor engine bay so easily. That's info I need to tuck away for future use.
