I lifted the head and it created a leak in the head gasket. Coolant got into the combustion chamber and hyper-pressurized it. . . . I think.
That's our best guess anyway.
I found out the piston was hurt when I went to change the head gasket Thursday night to get ready for Fun Ford this weekend. Its a DSS specifice piston, so I had one "same day" delivered and jammed it in last night. I was hoping to race today, but I was too tired from wrenching all night and the car isn't quite back together. I'll be running it tomorrow, though.
The car rann 11.22 last weekend with that piston and a blown head gasket . . lol
OUCH!! Yeah thats not a good thing. Still not a bad run for having that problem.

87 GT (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) new paint job, 306 w/ TFS stage 1 cam, TFS intake , still cant decide on heads.
11.22 on a 7 cylinder motor, not bad at all. It does suck when things break right before a big night at the track. Good luck getting it all back together in time.

Well . . I already missed qualifying for Mod Comp (today) because I couldn't wrench fast enough. But, I should be up and running for Fast Ford and Quick Ford tomorrow.
Hey Truuble what's goin on brother! just wondering with that hurt piston did it mess up the cylinder wall? or were ya able to drop the new piston in and button it up? also how must boost are ya runnin' and what kind of horsepower is she makin' later man good luck

The cylinder looked okay. I'll know when I race tomorrow. I jammed the new piston in without pulling the motor . . just popped the pan and the head off.
I'm running about 17 pounds of boost. The car makes about 585 to the rear wheels.
No doubt, you got lucky that no block repair was needed to get the car back on the track. Good luck with the rest of the weekend.

Truuble,
You were in Cali when I was, not far away too. It's good to see you're still at it. 11.22...you're so close to that 10 sec slip. Awesome! We're all curious to see what you run/ran with the motor back together.
