I got em in!!!! They're SWEEEEETTTTT!!!!!! Definetly a noticiable difference... it feels like i go through 1st and 2nd in no time at all!! And my speedo is still off so it seems like im going even faster! LOL i wanna take a video of my speedo while i'm on it and show people... they'll think i have a 10 second car! lol jk. But anyway, the rest of the install this morning went pretty smooth, except for torqueing that damn pinion nut while the crush sleeve was in. It took both me and my brother to crank it and it was only like a 1/16 of a turn each time! lol. But honestly other than that, the install was really simple. You just have to have the right tools, and a press helps alot! The only thing we couldn't do was take off the old carrier bearings and the old pinion bearing, but we just took it to a local machine shop and they did it in about an hour for 15 bucks... which is better than trying to find the right bearing seperator and paying prolly around 30 bucks for it! But anyways it went well and it drives good so i'm happy... Now i have to take it back to the track and see how much of a difference it actually made!
sweet. i could only imagine how much of a b itch that pinion nut would be when you are trying to torque it on the ground. what did you end up putting in the flange to hold it while you torqued it? ive broken an extension and some punches with the torque that is applied to that thing with new bearings. we should meet up and run them, after i get my damn rear brakes installed.

lol hell ya man, sounds fun! Ya we ended up bending one screw driver... and then used a huge like 15" screw driver that would barely fit inside the driveshaft bolt hole... and i think we might even have bent that one a little too! lol. But it seriously took both me and my brother to turn it, and my brothers a big guy! 300 lbs, 6 foot 2, and strong as fuk and we could barely turn it together... crazy. But i still much prefered the install to my equal length header install, that one was no fun at all... and i didn't feel any performance improvment at all... but thats definetly not the case with the gears!
Thanks Bro! Ya I love the way it feels now... 1st and 2nd seem to go by so quick compared to before! And i think they are actually making me a better driver because im not driving that fast cuz i dont know how fast exactly i'm going... and on the freeway im not used to the higher RPM's yet so i'm like driving in the slow lane all the time. lol.
Congrats on the install man. I swapped my entire rear end out with a rear end that was runnig 3.55's and compared to the 2.73's man it was like a kick in the butt. Like you said 1st and 2nd zip by and 3rd had more grunt than before. Also 5.0 resto sells speedo gears for the gear swap. I know they sell a speedo gear for the 3.73 rear end. It takes 10 minutes to change ( it is on the side of the tranny). that way your speedometer will be accurate.
so you would take the gear swap before doing the equal header swap again?? The equal header swap wasnt that bad. It was a pain I will admit that but i would think swaping rear gears on your back would be worse. i havent swapped the gears but i rebuilt my trak-loc and ended up yanking it out because it was easier to bench build it.

ya dude gear swap was way less of a pain in the @ss then my header install... really if i did the header install again it would prolly go smoother, but the first time around i had tons of fitment problems, spark plug wire problems, and getting to the bolts to tighten them was also a pain. But then again, i did have alot of help from my brother, and there was some stuff during the gear install that i would think would require at least 2 people, soo... As for the speedo gear, i heard that in order to change it on an AOD, you pretty much have to tear it apart. So i think i'll prolly just end up buying an electronic speedo anyway... i wanna get Ultralite II's and take out the entire stock guage system... i think that would look bad @ss.
Hmmm... dont know how to change the speedo gear in the AOD's. That was my bad thought you had a 5 speed.

How many rpms are you turning at 65 now? Gears are great upgrades, they wake up any small block. The great thing about the newer Stangs, compared to classics, is that you have that overdrive too, so youre not turning 4 grand at 60 going down the highway. You could always put the five speed in the old ones, but im not into that type of stuff, I like vintage to be vintage. Anyway, your car looks beautiful from that pic, even though it only gets the rear in. I bet you cant wait to get it back to the strip.
congrats, redhot. I just finished my 4.10's last night and have no idea how I woulda done it without the use of my mechanics lift and garage, he's kind enough to let me use his shop at night sometimes. My speedometer is useless right now and I'm having a hard time locating the right gear for the speedometer w/ 4.10's anyone have any suggests were I can locate one?

Ya i cant wait! Next thursday i'll get to find out what it'll run. As for the RPM's on the freeway, i usually run between 2100 and 2500... 2100 being the slow lane and 2500 being the faster lanes. Its not bad but it does take some getting used too.

Congrats to you aswell man! As for the speedo gear, check this website out: http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/gears.html
Asuming you do have a t5, and an 89 or older stang, you can use a 23 tooth gear... but with the 90-95's the 23 tooth gear will still be off... thats what this site says so you can read up on it for yourself.
*well i just saw your name, 88sleeper, so i'm assuming you have an 88 stang... which means you should be able to use a 23 tooth gear. Ford racing sell them on thier site i believe.
