Default New times with the 18 inch drag radials.

Decided to head to the track Saturday..man it was cold. I used to run slicks and skinnies, a 125 shot of the gas and power shift my stang to hi 11's. As I have gotten older and tired of switching stuff up at the track I went another root. I currently run an SQ blower and 18 inch drag radials. As the track is 3 hours away, I have to be careful how hard I beat on the car. This was the first time, and I did not power shift. The car ran a 12.3@116 with a 1.9 60 foot. I only ran three times but I was quite happy, spare in the back, half a tank of gas. lol I think I can get this car into the 11's with this set up. I will probable run my slicks and skinnies in the spring, powershift it and finally get a real number instead of what I think it can do. Anyway, thanks for reading, I made it home in 2.5 hours, running at 70-80 and still manged 14 mpg. So all in all, I am real happy with what the car is doing.

You're definitely hittin high 11's with slicks and skinnies. What gears are you using?

You drive to a track that's three hours away? You my friend have big balls, especially running slicks and poweradders, the potential for breakage factor is huge.

The track I want to run is about 100 miles away, and I'm waiting till next year when I can buy a trailer before I start running there. We used to (many years ago) have a dragstrip a few miles away, which I ran at a lot, till it closed up. More than once I had mechanical problems that meant the car had to be towed home, but at least it was close. I wouldn't want to guess what it would cost for a long distance tow. Besides it'll be nice to load up anything I even think I might need, and take it all along.

Have you never (yet) broken something at the track that couldn't be fixed there, and left you stranded? If so what did you do? I'm curious, since I often hear of people driving long distances to race, and I always wonder what their contingency plan is for getting the car home in event of a breakdown.

We're not the fastest car at the track but we might be having the most fun.

If you're not having fun, then you're taking this stuff too seriously!

Thanks guys! As far as breakage, the car his pretty heavily modified..stout rear and tranny but anything could happen. That is why I prefer to run drag radilas..less chance of breakage. In the spring when i run slicks and skinnies, more then likely a few friends will go with me..2 of who have trailers and have always told me they will get me home. I guess it is always on the back of my mind..but why worry, can't do anything about it until it happens. lol

Yes, but you should always plan ahead, you dfinately dont want to break and then have to figure it out.
