Ok, so since I wont be able to do anything with a Cleveland, how about a stroker in a 5.0? I need to get a car that i'll be able to drive while I build the engine. Im thinking maybe a 94-95. Now, if you use a 351 Windsor block, how hard is it going to be to get in there and how hard do you think that will be to pass emissions. I would try to disguise it as stock looking, and I think if it fits easily enough that it wont be too easy to tell its a 351 block because A. Most people cant tell and B. its going to be covered in crap. I would probably go with a 393 or 408 though, so im not sure how that would work out. I know I would need to get a Tremec too because that T-5 wouldnt stand a chance. I would probably top it with some REALLY big AFRs and maybe even supercharge it later on down the road, but I would paint the heads (and can even have the AFR grooves filled to make the sides look smooth and original because im not sure AFRs are techincally emissions legal) Any advice, suggestions, comments, imput, answers please?
I highly doubt it will pass emissions. Maybe if its tuned perfectly but i doubt it. Its also going to depend on the cam and stuff.
Yeah, thats more what im worried about. Id be running a big cam. I could always just make a torque monster out of, maybe a 426 stroker and just make it run to something like 5800-6000 rpms.
how about you go get it emissions tested, THEN do all the mod work to it? can you do that? i dont live in an emissions test required state, so i dont know. you could make the new motor look stock as well, that way no normal person would think anything of it.
Yeah, thats kind of what I was planning, but I would have to bring it to get tested again after the engine is in. I dont know what is required now by CT. I beleive its every 3 years or something like that. It just changed not too long ago.
A lot depends on what the emissions laws are in your area. Do you have to pass a sniffer, or is it just a visual? Where I live we have to pass a visual emissions test every year. A big cammed car is never gonna pass a sniffer test, and it will take a dummy not to notice the idle even if only a visual test is required. As far as the visual test goes, a lot of places probably wouldn't know if you swapped in a 351 with aftermarket heads, but then some would.
The guy who runs the inspection station I go to is a racer himself, when doing the visual emissions test, he picks up right away if the heads aren't legal, or if an illegal engine swap has been done. Lucky for me that my car is registered as a classic, and is emissions exempt.

We're not the fastest car at the track but we might be having the most fun.
If you're not having fun, then you're taking this stuff too seriously!
Yeah, we have to pass a sniffer and a visual. I wonder just how big I can go witht he cam and still pass. Ill just have to stroke it really big to make up for it lol. I can probably get quite a bit of lift, just not much duration.

i mean, don't they just put a sticker on your car to say it passed emissions? how do they know that you changed the engine soon after you pass the emissions test?
or is it like, when they pull you over, they do a breathalizer for your car if they suspect something?
