What kind of motor oil do you guys use on your Mustangs???? I'm using Motorcraft 5W30 Synthetic blend on my 87 GT, but some people say its not that good of an oil and some say it is. What do you guys think????
It meets all the Federal standards. People like to have a opinion on everything. My opinion is to buy the cheapest oil you can and change it every 5k miles. That should help feed the fire. lol
i was thinking about switching to synthetic, but i dont think oil matters THAT much. the only reason i use penzoil is because the previous owner used penzoil everything. there was a penzoil sticker on my window, and i got penzoil.
In my supercharged 88 I used Castrol Synthetic 20W-50. That was the recommendation from my tuner, Mike Murillo. In my n/a 5.0 in my '70 truck, I use Mobil One Synthetic 10W-30.

I was using penzoil 10W-30 and now i switched to Quaker state full synthetic and let me tell you it stays cleaner longer runs better (quieter) and doesnt break up at high rpm. thats the purpose of synthetic.
I was a big believer in heavy oils for years (20-50), untill I got a Gtech meter and tried 10-30. I knocked a half sec off my 0-60 time. No more heavy oil for me. Any name brand oil is fine, they are all the same. Syn is of course better

I believe Ford Recommends 5W-30 or 10W-30 only for a 5.0.
I gave that stuff a try before I put my 'Stang down for the Winter. Honestly, I didn't notice that huge of a difference. There might have been, then again, there was that oil leak from the rear main seal...
I'll just go by what my stepfather used to tell me "Oil is oil". All that matters is specifics on weights and viscosities, not on brand names, synthetics, or any of that hooplah.
Oil doesn;t matter that much as long as you keep it clean. That means regular changes.
A heavy oil is good for older engines as the tolerances have been worn open a bit and this will help fill in the gaps a little better.
All brands that are certified, which I don't know where you would buy anythign retail thats not... will protect your engine.
Synthetic is better, engine tear downs have proven this.
try to match to weather conditions. I tend to use 10W30 Penzoil in my 5.0 in the summers and 5W30 in the winters.
In my new car, I use the Motorcraft synthetic that the dealer puts in (hey they only charge me $11 for an oil change since I bought the car there) Its the only car I have ever owned that I don't chage my own oil in.
Perfromance wise, there hasn't been much proven as major power losses or increases. I saw a write up somewhere where Redline did a test on an Impala SS (LT1 version from the 90's) replaced all the organic fluids with Red Line's Synthetic. That was oil, Tranny fluid, Rear End Fluid, Power Steering Fluid, and I cant remember if there was anythign else. They showed a gain of 10hp. Now think about the extra money that will cost you over 2 years with a Daily Driver. Is that 10hp worth that? I could see it in a Race car though.
For an Engine burnign oil, or lifters ticking, I have found that the Lucas oil that you can mix with anything help a lot. Quiets everything down and reduces oil consumption.
