I've got an '89 5.0 with the factory brakes. Someday I'm looking to get the 5 lug conversion and when I do, I want to put the cobra brakes on while I'm at it. I haven't really heard a lot about them, but what I have read, they are supposed to be pretty good. This is my everyday drive, and I'm a college student working to pay tuition among many other things. I don't have a lot of money just lying around, so I have to be smart with it. I was just curious if they would be worth the money.
Thanks, Toby

How much are they? I want to upgrade to bear claw. I don't have the cash now. But Its worth it if you like to stop quickly, how else would you be able to out run the cops ehehehe.....

Anderson ford power pipe the big one, Ford motor sport shorty headers, Bassani x pipe custom cat back with flows, World class T5, center force duel friction clutch.
the cobra kit is 2 grand. plus wheels and tires (dont forget to factor that in).
its expensive, but its a big safety upgrade, which helps justify it.
i myself am piecing a kit together. i have found some awesome deals locally and should come in at about 1 grand INCLUDING wheels and tires.
is it worth it? yes if youre keeping the car. i doubt youll get that back when you go to sell your stang (if ever).
the kit saves you the time and hassle of piecing one together (believe me, im going on 4 months).
if i could afford it, i would.

If you want to stay four lug, there by saving money on wheels. There is a fairly inexpensive way to upgrade the brakes. Get a set of 73MM front calipers, they bolt right on. There cheap and make a huge difference. Get a good set of slotted and drilled rotors, performance pads (ebc, hawk), Then get a rear disc set up, you can do a 93 cobra set-up or go through SBCC. They have a complete rear disc set up for about 700 bucks. You can find cheaper ways to do the rear disc setup but its not as straightforward.

trust me... they are worth it! I have the Bullitt calipers, which are the same as the cobras, and 94+ rear discs... which use the same rear caliper as the cobras but with just a smaller solid rotor instead of a larger vented one... i peiced the kit together myself also took me about 3-4 months, and i spent prolly about 2 grand total with rims and everything else... My advice to you if you want to peice together a kit is to do your research and make sure u got everything down... also your choice of wheels will determine what rear axles you can use among other things.... if you have any questions about the install when you get around to it just pm me and i'll help you out... good luck!
Your best bet is to do what has been already said and piece it together yourself. I happened to get lucky and I was working at a speed shop for SVT vehicles and we were doing a brembo brake kit on this guys 03 cobra and we were talking and I mentioned that I was going to buy this kit from Ford Racing and he was like, just take my old stuff, its only gonna sit in my garage or basement collecting dust (and his car had less than 10k miles on it). So I pretty much got calipers, rotors, and hoses for nothing. Piecing it together is probably your best bet. It will def be cheaper than buying a baer kit or brembo or anything like that.

OOORAAHH!!!
Do they make a four leg set? Eventually I want to go to five lug, but I can't afford it yet. Maybe I should wait and do the five lug conversion first. What do ya'll think?

If it were me, I would wait until I could do the 5 Lug as there are many more advantages to go along with it.
i agree with shakerhood... also if you got any questions i'm sure shakerhood could help you out too. He probably helped me out the most out of everyone when i was piecing my kit together... lol
Thanks guys. I guess my next step is to do the five lug conversion. I've got some other things I'm gonna do soon (sub-frames, UCA, LCA, etc.) but that will be my next big project. I don't know a whole lot about it so I will definately be asking MANY questions.

You know that is not a complete kit and you will still need parts to go with it? That is a good start though!
no I didn't know it was incomplete,I thought you' open the box, bolt it on and go----then stop(LOL)
What's not there??
