Default Auto VS Manual. whats the difference?

Hey guys ' can some 1 tell me what the advantages and disadvantages between an automatic and a manual transmission in a 5.0 or is this just preference. Also if somthing goes wrong with the transmission what one would be more costy$$ to fix' im not that mechanicly inclined. Thanks Garry

Prolly the auto would be more costly to fix. Autos are even more complex than manuals.

well, an automatic transmission shifts the gears for you, and eliminates the clutch. on a manual transmission, or a stick, you have to shift the gears yourself.

im not sure as to how many gears an automatic transmission has in a 5.0, but the t-5 has 5 gears.

Manual tranny advantages:
1. you can shift at whatever rpm you chose
2. you can smoke the tires to the rim without holding one foot on the brake
3. you get 5 gears instead of 4
4. they're lighter than automatics
5. they are easier to work on
6. you can downshift and use rpm's to slow you down(saving your brakes)
7.Nothing beats a stick

Advantages of automatics:
1. none

That was simple.

Richard

get your facts straight. on an automatic when you powershift you can choose any rpm you want.
2.who cares if you hold the brakes.
3. learn your **** before talking and dont hate on automatic because more people are choosing it then manual

kthnx

With a manual you drive the car, with an auto you just steer it.

I personally would never want any kind of performance car that wasn't a stick. The fun factor is huge. Yeah I know, opinions vary, but here's mine: real men drive sticks, weenies drive autos.

On a race track, (1/4) times will be more consistant.
And they can be just as fast as a stick but the stick gives you more overall contoll of the car.

I can drive either but I drive an auto. Btw, I love the look on the face of "real men" after they find out it was an auto that just took'em.

Sorry if I offended anyone, I forgot that most kids today never learned how to drive a stick! And I wasn't talking about what might or might not be faster, just that a stick is more fun.

I'd take a man trans anyday. I rebuilt mine on my kitchen counter, its that simple.. You can beat the hell out of them and put a new clutch in and be good to go. Auto trans is so much heavier, cost more and is more difficult to work on. Weight kills performance and worse kills handling If all u do is go in a straight line a 1/4 at a time, then maybe a auto has some advantages. But if you do any kind of daily or pleasure driving why wouldn't you want a stick.. Autos are for minivans. Which I won't drive either. An Added plus nothin more sexy then a hot chick that can drive a stick....
