Default What kind of paint to use on rear axle?

What would be the best kind of paint to use on the rear axle housing?

You can buy undercoating in a spray can. That's what I would use. Maybe paint
the cover gloss black. I always use engine paint for parts that will be facing heat.

go buy a gallon of por 15. It costs about 90 bucks, but you can paint anything on your car with it. It is a rust converter, and it is practically bullet proof once it dries. its amazing, and you can brush it on and it dries pretty smooth. you can also spray it on through a crappy spray gun that you dont want. its worth every penny, and has a nice semi-gloss sheen to it. its black.

im using it on my entire undercarraige and frame structure.
but as 5.0forlife said, i use also use 1800 degree engine paint from duplicolor on parts that will face heat. 500 degree works too, i just like to go overkill.

por 15 comes in black, silver, and some other colors too i think.
google it.

Do you think a quart of that POR15 will cover an axle? Cuz a gallon is $125 and a quart is $40

yea a quart will do the job no problem. it spreads out very well when brushed on.
i recommend using one of those black foam applicator brushes, rather than a regular paintbrush. you WILL be throwing the brush away. also, dont wear good clothes, because it will not come off. and WEAR GLOVES. it takes about 2 months to get it off of your skin. it's hardcore.

I used the Eastwood Version of POR15 and its better as it is UV Resistant, I think it was like 36 bucks for a Quart and I didnt even use half on the entire rear axle housing.

I would have to say that it is kind of a Semi-Gloss, its actually a really nice finish for the rear!

Thats what im gonna do, When I take my rear apart to put the disc brake stuff on im gonna repaint the entire axle housing. Maybe I will get some silver and do the underside of the car like you did shaker, my car is silver too. What did you use to prep the underside? did you sand it at all or just clean it real good?
