me, i have very little money in mine, i bought it for 2000, and all the costs since then have been maintenence.
i ask because i was doing a little price up thing, using the 5.0 beginners guide to mods page. if i paid 5k for a stang, i added brand new parts to it, a trickflow top end kit, CAI, full exhaust, rear end, TB, ignition, injectors, and UD pulleys, the total cost around 9k, and that doesnt even have any suspension mods. (about how much rwhp would i get with that amount of mods? i just need a balkpark figure)
I bought my 5.0 april 05 and it's still in the garage! But to answer your question, I've got about 15,000 in it which includes the price I paid for the car itself. It's easier to list what I haven't replaced, which is the tranny. Eveything else is new or rebuilt. The crate motor came from DSS which set me back $5,000 and the list goes on. I'm hoping for at least 340 rwhp on this NA project. It will be show room when I'm done, I hope........... Good question though! I'm sure others are getting a lot more hp for much cheaper but what the hell, it's been fun!

very good thread soad. to answer your question and much like KG94GT i have not touched the tranny yet, but still about 12 grand in my gt. and i am sure more to come. whats funny is it is an addiction. you really don't think about the dollar amount but what you want done next. i know it sounds insane but once the ball starts rolling you can't seem to get it stopped. good luck and know what you want in the beginning b/c i have redone too many things i thought i had right the first time!!!!

Ya I am in about the same position as KG94GT and bamm. I have pretty much changed everything other than the tranny, and my rear control arms. I am running pretty close to 20, 000 Canadian with the cost of the initial car included. That also includes an estimated cost of what my body work I have been doing this winter is costing me too, and I am doing it all myself. I would also have to agree with bamm that you should really do your research and try and figure out what it is you want the car to be like before you start to aimlessly throw parts at it. I almost made a huge mistake when getting my motor from DSS, and I would have been kicking myself now if I had not talked to some people I know before ordering it who made me change my plans.

Well, I've never really sat down and added everything up... so here goes!... i got the car for free but spent around 600 to get her running and paint and interior (done at home)... then i probably got right around 2400 in it for my bolt-ons, gears and suspension mods. Then i spent a good 2000 on my brake mods and bullitt rims. Another 300 going through tires. And i think thats it... of course there is always the misc stuff every so often but i think thats it as far as mods. So totals around 5300... hmm not as bad as i thought.
lets see.... $1500 for the car, $300 for first set of tires, $450 for springs, shocks, struts, $150 for C/C plates, $50 for new nose, $100 for new hood, $50 for new rad support, $250 for front brakes, $350 for rear brakes, $425 for new wheels + 3 tires (lol), $175 for brake distribution block and stainless lines, and i guess about another $200 for misc brake stuff, plus $200 for LCA's, and $220 for k-member.
so right now, about 3 grand... wow, thats awesome haha. i never added it up before. plenty more to come as well.

I will cry if I think about it, but to give you guys an idea, I spent $8000 on the car about 8 years ago. I have since rebuilt the trans about 3 times with an average of about 1500 per rebuild (addition of various parts along the way). I've been thru two sets of exhaust, two sets of rims, replaced tires once (luckily). Did sound system twice. Added various bolt-ons throughout the last several years. Added nitrous, plus all of the accessory goodies (that was $1000). And, just recently rebuilt the motor and bought everything new (don't want to even look, just kept whipping out the ol' credit card). Oh, replaced the top (convertible) and bought new skins for the seats. I would guestimate somewhere in the 18 - 20 range currently, but I don't want to think about that.....
1987 Mustang. I paid $120 for it as a roller and I am getting help from a friend (Read between the lines and say experienced mechanic) and we are building an engine for it... On the cheap! It consists of a stock block, stock crank, connecting rods and pistons with ARP studs throughout the complete engine, F303 cam, Stock heads (Still looking for aftermarket ones! CHEAP CHEAP), roller rockers, an Old but clean Edelbrock F4B intake, Edelbrock 600cfm carburator,Edelbrock electric fuel pump for engine and holley black for nitrous system, Nos Cheater plate, Nos 16050NOS Fuel solinoid, Nos 16000NOS Nitrous solinoid, MSD 8579 distributor with the proper steel gear, MSD blaster 2 coil, Edelbrock valve covers, MSD 6al with two step and window switch, Taylor wires,Subframe connectors (homemade),Underdrive pullies Full length headers, X Pipe, Dynomax mufflers, Aluminum rad, C4 auto with stage 2 shift kit, 2500 stall converter and backed up by 3.73 gears and a lock rite with 31spline axles. (All of that including the car for less than $1700 Canadian in total invested into it!) Forgot to include that I have now have two New Old Stock door shells and two New fenders as well from a contact at a body shop that has been holding onto them for the last 8 years...Traded a set of 87 Chevy truck doors for it that I've had forever! It does need rear quarters still though I havent found them yet... The interior is mint though and even the ashtray door works!
