Default Motorcraft Part Numbers (Plugs)

So a while ago when I got the car I did a general tune-up. Plugs/Wires Cap/Rotor and all that jazz.

I ordered 32 range plugs from a company and installed them.

Now the question is this...

I didn't think of it at the time, but the part number had a 42 in it. When I checked MC part numbers today online, the 32 range plugs had 32 in the number.

Now here is the conundrum.. the car is pinging. Air/Fuel has been worked out. Carbon Build-Up is possible and Timing has never been messed with in 123k miles. The site I got the plugs from does not even sell 42 range plugs.

So the question is.. think I ended up somehow getting 42 range plugs and it's causing the pinging problem? I already ordered 22 range plugs because I planned on putting NOS on it later on, and was getting the cold plugs to get ready for it. Would using those now hurt performance at all versus a 32 range plug?

Thanks guys.

Up to 100hp shot 1 range colder is fine. I actually run the NGK Iridium's with the stock heat range on my 99 with no air\fuel problems on a 100hp shot. Also take out your MAF meter and clean it out with MAF cleaner from advance auto or electric parts cleaner spray. The 94's are notorious for running lean, and one of the causes is a dirty MAF element.

Brand new MAF in it

The lean issue was being caused by the fuel pump and it's running at 13.2:1 Air/Fuel.

Looking for other issues now that might be causing pinging other than running lean. One of them I thought of could have been the plugs if I got the wrong heat range.

I had a buddy of mine who had the same pinging problem even after replacing all of the fuel components, and still had the pinging. I read an article in MMFF and they cleaned out the MAFand fixed the pinging and fuel problem. I am running over 350 to the wheels with 19lb injectors I doubt you do not have fuel go to the plugs it is probably a sensor sending the wrong info. Also pull out your oxygen sensors and look at them if they look like they have been put through hell like prolonged lean condition replace them.

Also take all of you electrical connections and put die electrode grease on all of your electrical connections especially the TPS sensor, along with checking the voltage.
